Deku was bound to become a teacher in My Hero Academia and the extra pages in volume 42 prove it
My Hero Academia volume 42 is set to be released on December 4, 2024, but its extra pages have already been leaked. The extra pages showcased the reunion of Class 1-A where everyone celebrated the Hero Ranking of Shoto Todoroki. Before this reunion, the pages focused on a conversation between Bakugo and Deku where the protagonist confirmed that his fate was to become a teacher.
While in the car, Bakugo indirectly offered Deku a place as his sidekick. However, the protagonist declined it and stated that his receiving the new armor from All Might didn't change his goals. He went as far as to say that he would have become a teacher even if he hadn't received the One for All quirk.

My Hero Academia: Deku reveals his passion for becoming a teacher
My Hero Academia volume 42 extra pages showcased Class 1-A's reunion for which everyone traveled to a single restaurant. While most of them arrived through local transport, Deku was given a ride in Bakugo's car. Moreover, Kirishima also accompanied them and he asked Deku about some students who could become his sidekicks.
The talk then shifted to Bakugo's sidekicks who rejected him due to the Pro Hero's temper. Bakugo then indirectly asked Deku about becoming his sidekick by asking Izuku if he was planning on teaching for the rest of his life. Deku replied nodded and stated that becoming a teacher was his calling from the beginning.
Deku revealed that he was getting offers from other schools for delivering lectures and the related. The protagonist was happy that he could tell the next generation about his past experiences.
This led to Izuku claiming that he would have become a teacher even if he hadn't received One for All. Moreover, he was also glad that he could again become a hero with his friends due to the armor All Might gave him.
This might be a controversial take for the fans who were thinking the protagonist would rise to the top and become the #1 hero. However, the #1 hero might be a wordplay from Kohei Horikoshi as Deku rose to the top and became the inspiration for the young generation.
This could be seen from how he replaced All Might on the cover for My Hero Academia volume 42. So, he might have achieved his dream of becoming the #1 hero already, but he preferred to follow his calling, which was to motivate the upcoming generation to do their best for the future.

Final thoughts
My Hero Academia volume 42 extra pages might have changed the entire perspective of the series given how much the fans love them. However, there might be some fans who are still stuck on the manga series' final chapter which hinted that Deku might have been left alone. As the epilogue is a canon part of a story, the extra pages should be enough for the fans to change their perspective.
