Dragon Ball Daima's newest villain has fans asking "what happened to good" character designs
Dragon Ball Daima recently revealed the look of Majin Kuu, Dr. Arinsu's creation, in the latest episode and the receptions have been far from positive. While most people are willing to give the character a bit of time so he can test his mettle from a writing perspective, his design has certainly been a major disappointment in the community.
There have been several criticisms regarding Majin Kuu's design in Dragon Ball Daima, such as the color scheme, the structure of his head, and the rather simplistic look.
However, this situation has led to a larger discussion about the art of the series, which has created a massive divide between different factions in the fandom.

The Majin Kuu in Dragon Ball Daima spawns a lot of criticism in the fandom online
The most recent episode of Daima had Dr. Arinsu and Marba finally creating a new Majin with the former's DNA, some of Majin Buu's flesh, and a Saibaman seed, named Majin Kuu.
While there are expectations of what this character can do, his design has gone viral online for all the wrong reasons since the fandom is not happy with how he looks.
There have been multiple comments regarding how Majin Kuu's design is poor, with people bringing up a poor color scheme that does not fit with how he looks.
Moreover, other fans have brought up how the structure of his head, the lips, and the lack of interesting details make the design quite underwhelming, with some mentioning how this character takes too much from the Saibamen.
This has also led to a lot of fans mentioning how the less detailed and imposing designs from Daima have been disappointing, which is an interesting take when considering the evolution of author Akira Toriyama.
Some people yearn for the days of Z where several characters had more imposing looks, with some even mentioning the non-canon movie designs such as Cooler and Janemba's final forms.
Reactions online
Dragon Ball Daima has had a positive reception with a certain percentage of the fanbase, with many calling it the best work Toei Animation has done with the franchise since the Z anime. However, it has also created a big divide.
There are a lot of fans who would want the series to go back to the days of the Namek, Cell, and Buu sagas or even move forward with Super and adapt the Moro and Granolah arcs from the manga.
The Majin Kuu designs work as a prime example of said division since some consider it a typical Akira Toriyama design with its goofy aesthetic while others would have liked something a lot more memorable and threatening for a Majin.
This shows how even the most committed fans of the franchise can have opposing opinions of what makes this series what it is.
"Dragon ball really need new real original menacing villains, this just some kind of a regurgitation," someone said.
"This looks like one of those characters made with a 2008 website dragon ball character generator," another person said.
"Let's be honest Dragon Ball is known for goofy looking villains in their base forms for attention but they often transform into complete bada... right after. So let them cook," someone else said.
Regardless of character designs, Majin Kuu can change people's opinions with a good performance in Dragon Ball Daima.
