Every difference between Goku and Vegeta's Super Saiyan Blue in Dragon Ball, explained

Dragon Ball has had a lot of transformations throughout the years, some of which have become iconic in the anime and manga industry. However, one of the most peculiar transformations is Super Saiyan Blue. Introduced during the Super sequel, the Super Saiyan transformation infused with God Ki was used by Goku and Vegeta during most of that series.

While Super Saiyan Blue seems like a fairly straightforward transformation, Goku and Vegeta provide their own twists and strategies, thus emphasizing their combat talents. Some of these differences are more notorious than others, but the two Dragon Ball Super protagonists prove to have developed this transformation to a higher level.

When it comes to Goku's version of this transformation, it is worth pointing out how he got God Ki in the first place. It was during the Battle of Gods storyline that he and his fellow Saiyan friends and family did the ritual necessary for him to reach the Super Saiyan God transformation. This started his path to develop Super Saiyan Blue offscreen with Whis before the Resurrection F arc.

However, the biggest difference when compared to Vegeta's interpretation occurs during the tournament events with Universe 6. While fighting Hit, Goku decided to use Super Saiyan Blue with the Kaioken on top of that, mostly called Blue Kaioken, thus giving him a massive upgrade in speed and strength. This was also used against Jiren in the Tournament of Power arc. Like the regular Kaioken, this move takes a massive toll on Goku's body.

Vegeta, on the other hand, has shown a greater degree of diversity with the use of Super Saiyan Blue in Dragon Ball Super. The first notorious difference is that he reached this transformation and Super Saiyan God thanks to sheer hard work and training with Whis. The anime version of these events showed that he actively sought out the Angel to get trained by him.

However, the biggest difference occurred during the Tournament of Power arc since he was struggling to fight against Jiren and didn't want to follow Goku's steps with Ultra Instinct. Therefore, he pushed his limits and developed the Super Saiyan Evolved form, which is similar in design to the Super Vegeta power-up he used against Semi-Perfect Cell, only with the blue aura and hair color.

Another difference is through the execution and use of this form in the manga, with Vegeta switching between this form and Super Saiyan God when fighting Goku Black. He used the red form to be faster and then switched to the blue one for greater damage, which shows how Vegeta had a more tactical approach when it came to these transformations.

Final thoughts

Super Saiyan Blue is one of the most divisive transformations in the Dragon Ball franchise, but it could be argued that it is the default form for Goku and Vegeta in Super. Regardless, both characters added something unique to this form, highlighting their status as battle geniuses.
