Greek mythology may indicate where Fujimoto is taking Chainsaw Man next

The next bits of Chainsaw Man might be hidden in Greek mythology, which is what creator Tatsuki Fujimoto could refer to move the story ahead. Upon close inspection, intriguing parallels surface between ancient legends and recent events in the manga. Complex dynamics between Devils, Humanity, and overarching prophecies tease a narrative deeply intertwined in mythological allegories.

A recent and compelling theory compares the Aging Devil and Prometheus. The Titan's tale of rebellion and sacrifice mirrors the Aging Devil’s pursuit of wisdom and evolution, potentially linking it to the Nostradamus Prophecy and the looming threat of the Death Devil. Weaving these mythological elements into its narrative has allowed Chainsaw Man to expand its thematic depth.

The speculated connections between aging, death, and humanity’s relentless quest for progress have set the stage for a riveting and possibly cataclysmic turn of events.

Chainsaw Man: Greek mythology might hold the key to the story's progress

A recently surfaced theory has drawn the attention of many in the Chainsaw Man fandom. Unlike many of the theories formulated so far, this one parallels Greek mythology with the series as a means to predict what might happen next. It begins by likening the Aging Devil to the Titan Prometheus and one who will be a catalyst in the arrival of the Death Devil.

To begin with, as Prometheus gave fire to Humanity and in later tales, bestowed them with Technology, Knowledge, and Civilisation to enable them to develop, the Aging Devil has the same goal—to make Humans evolve, i.e., "the culmination of thought." It wants humans to attain higher wisdom/consciousness. Moreover, it dislikes immaturity (chapter 179), likely why it chose the 10,000 children sacrifice.

Further, Prometheus’s punishment —eternally having his liver devoured—mirrors the Aging Devil’s potential role. As per Ancient Greeks, the liver symbolized life and intelligence, concepts vital to the Devil’s goals. Intriguingly, Fumiko’s liver is also demanded by the Aging Devil, further tying into the mythological symbolism. Hence, the Aging Devil is critical to the Nostradamus Prophecy.

Moving ahead, the prophecy’s imagery of a "King of Terror" descending from the sky aligns with Prometheus’s narrative. It proposes that the Aging Devil’s actions may inadvertently usher in the Death Devil's arrival. With humanity’s fear of aging diminishing, humans could fear death less, thus triggering the Death Devil’s resurgence. Like Genghis Khan’s destructive conquests, such a revival might unleash chaos, cementing the prophecy’s grim predictions.

Greek mythology in Chainsaw Man is a fresh perspective

Adding Greek mythology to Fujimoto's series is certainly a fresh take on the story. The above-explored theory is intriguing and seems quite plausible. There is little to argue against since the statements are backed by facts and involve minimal speculation. But even so, this is hit or miss, considering that it could be on point or completely off.

When looked at closely, the Aging Devil seems to strangely want Humanity to evolve. As per the series' lore, it has seen humans reach the "culmination of thought" before the tree-fication process. It even mentions so itself, that it wants humans to live longer and discover unseen concepts. However, the way it does so is again questionable, i.e., having them become trees.

Even so, if the Aging Devil does achieve this goal, a fate other than death will be awaiting humanity. So in essence, the fear of death will eventually diminish, thus compelling the arrival of the Death Devil. Hence, the Aging Devil might just be the missing piece that fulfills the Nostradamus Prophecy.

As with all speculation, this theory finds its place in the library of others formulated so far. It is quite intriguing and given the events that are currently unfolding and those that will unfold, drawing parallels to Greek mythology might just prompt what happens next. The Death Devil's arrival has been teased as a major event and having it fizzle out doesn't seem like a Fujimoto thing.

Moreover, going by the theory, the Death Devil facing a situation where it finds itself weakened could be an interesting watch. An event like this could reflect a challenge it has never faced before, reinvigorating its role and relationship with the Aging Devil. Their linked fates might actually herald a new era for Devils, one marked by philosophical and existential exploration.
