Is Dandadan finished? Status of Anime and Manga, explained
Branding Dandadan as an anime phenomenon might not be wrong given the impact it has had on the anime community. Not only did Science SARU give the series' source material the love it deserved, but every pop culture reference in it also hit hard. This brings us to the question, is the Dandadan manga and anime adaptation finished?
Although the Dandadan anime season 1 is complete, the manga is currently in its 10th arc. One disappointment related to the anime adaptation was that it only had 12 episodes in its season. However, with its second season announced, fans' cravings will be met soon. On the other hand, if fans are interested in the manga, they could binge-read it as there are no announcements of it ending soon.
Dandadan: Exploring the status of the series' source and anime adaptation
Dandadan anime adaptation was announced during a mainstream, where the series' initial staff members were announced. Moreover, the series animation studio was announced, Studio Science SARU. The animation studio is known for series like Devilman Crybaby and its 'unique' style of animation.
The latter was also the reason why fans speculated whether the series would be able to give the manga the love it deserved. On October 4, 2024, the series' first episode aired and fans were more than just satisfied with the anime adaptation. The spotlight of the anime adaptation was the transformation of Okarun from a human to his ghost form.
Moreover, the series was well-paced, neither too fast nor too slow, which is why it ended on the third arc, the Cursed House Arc. The finale episode, episode 12, featured Okarun and Momo visiting Jiji's hometown to take care of the spirit that was haunting Jiji's house.
The episode ended with a cliffhanger where Okarun and Jiji encountered a strange relic whereas Momo was cornered by 'Gators' in a hot spring. Fortunately, season 2 was announced moments after the premiere of episode 12. The series' season 2 is set to be released in the Summer 2024 Anime season (July 2025).
Dandadan's source material, a manga series of the same name, is written and illustrated by Yukinobu Tatsu. While the author has no previous work that could showcase his masterpiece, his past as the assistant of Fujimoto Tatsuki (Chainsaw Man) and Yuuji Kaku (Hell's Paradise) was enough to show that he had a bright future as a manga artist.
The manga series is being serialized in Shueisha's Shonen Jump + magazine and released its first chapter on April 6, 2021. The manga series has so far released 177 chapters, with the latest one released on December 6, 2024. The series' next chapter, chapter 178, is set to be released on December 24, 2024.
The manga series has released 10 arcs so far, with the latest one being the Pygmy Princess Arc. Moreover, the manga series is nowhere near its climax given how the author hasn't released any information about it reaching the final arc/saga. So, fans who cannot wait for season 2 can pick up the manga series from chapter 33, where season 1 of the anime ended.
