Kohei Horikoshi confirms Dabi's status in My Hero Academia's final volumeĀ
My Hero Academia's final volume is set to be released on December 4, 2024, but the extra pages have already been leaked and confirmed Dabi's life status. Since the chapter where he was seen in a life chamber before the Todoroki family, the fans wanted to know if he would make it out alive or not. Sadly, his tale ended just the way fans expected, as he was confirmed deceased.
During the reunion party, where everyone discussed their hero rankings, Shoto shed light on how everyone had presumed he had a hard life due to his family background. However, Shoto took his difficult origins and used them to his benefit. Moreover, while he prayed at Toya's altar (confirming Dabi's life status), he realized his love for food.

My Hero Academia's final volume: Unveiling the fate of the villain Dabi
The extra pages of My Hero Academia's final volume commenced with a focus on Uraraka's dream, where Toga appeared. The chapter then shifted to every student from Class 1-A traveling to a meet-up spot. Deku was traveling with Kirishima and Bakugo. As they reached the spot, it was revealed that the meet-up was to celebrate Shoto's hero ranking (#2 in Japan).
This started the topic of hero rankings, and everyone began bragging about their rankings. While everyone did this, Toya sat beside Bakugo and Deku and started discussing the recent questions he had received from the media. The Pro Hero revealed how the press pitied him for having a cruel family, which led to him doubting whether becoming a hero was the correct choice.
However, he ignored such comments and claimed to be taking classes about making soba (a type of Japanese noodles). Deku and Bakugo asked Shoto about the classes he was taking. Shoto then revealed that while praying at Dabi's altar, he realized that wanting to become a hero wasn't the only thing that defined him (as his love for eating was another aspect of his personality).
While this hinted that Shoto might become a soba chef in the future, it answered the bigger question of Dabi's life status. As revealed by Shoto, Dabi died after he was placed inside the life chamber, and the Pro Hero later offered prayers at his brother's tomb, where he realized his love for food.
Analysis and final thoughts
In My Hero Academia chapter 426, the Todoroki family reunited for one last time before Toya, who was fighting for his life inside a life chamber. Even after everyone allowed Toya to curse them, he didn't reply with anything. As his condition worsened, the Todoroki family was asked to leave.
Before leaving, Shoto asked Toya about his favorite food, and his answer was soba noodles. Shoto replied by saying that soba noodles were his favorite, too. So, Horikoshi didn't kill Dabi as a villain because he reminded Shoto of something he loved. Moreover, Shoto's pursuit of a future as a soba chef proves how he honored the memory of his brother.
