My Hero Academia chapter 431 doesn't give Shigaraki the final focus he needed
My Hero Academia chapter 431 (extra pages) was released on December 4, 2024. The chapter showcased the life of every Class 1-A student after they entered their professional life. While the extra pages were appreciated by the majority of fandom (who weren't fond of the original ending showcased in chapter 430), what fans didn't like was how the author failed to give Shigaraki a spotlight.
At the climax of the final war, Shigaraki died but before dying, he gave his best wishes to Midoriya to change the society, In My Hero Academia chapter 431, fans wanted to see him reunite with his family who considered Tenko a monster. My Hero Academia chapter 431: Exploring the focus Shigaraki should have gotten
My Hero Academia chapter 431 solely focused on the reunion of the Class 1-A students who were to gather at a local restaurant to meet Todoroki and congratulate him on his Hero Ranking as the #2 hero. After the conclusion of this meet-up, Deku and Uraraka also met and the latter realized that what Toga wanted her to do was to follow her heart.
As Kohei Horokoshi finally closed the series on a proper end, he might have left some loose ties and that might concern one of the series' central characters, Tomura Shigaraki. Tomura Shigaraki (Real Name: Tenko Shimura) was showcased in the backside of the final volume, waving goodbye.
While this was wholesome and showcased how the villain might have converted before dying, Shigaraki deserved much more than this in My Hero Academia chapter 431. Tenko had a harsh childhood because of his grandmother. His grandmother was one of the inheritors of One for All and the antagonist's father hated his mother for abandoning him due to her hero career.
So, he often vented his anger onto his children and Tenko became the prime suspect of this. During this torture, Shigaraki awakened his quirk and his frustration towards his father led to him becoming paranoid. So, he kept destroying everything until he joined All for One and inaugurated the League of Villains.
During the final war arc, Nana Shimura, Tenko's grandmother, was crucial to stopping Shigaraki's rampage. The war ended with Shigaraki assisting the vestiges (and the protagonist) in killing All for One for good. Unfortunately, the fans didn't see the antagonist reunite with his family in the afterlife.
While this point might not look like much, it was crucial to explaining how Shigaraki wasn't born a monster. Moreover, this might have also made the series' climax more wholesome and fulfilling, given how Tomura Shigaraki is still one of the fan-favorite anime antagonists. So, just like the Class 1-A students, Tenko also deserved a spotlight in the extra pages.
Final thoughts
Some things are better left unanswered, but sometimes witnessing something firsthand makes things perfect. Such were the extra pages that Tomura Shigaraki deserved in My Hero Academia volume 42 extra pages as the author should have shown a glimpse of him getting reunited with his family.
However, is it also important to respect the author's decision because he might have not given closure to this subject for different reasons.
