Naruto's win against Kaguya will always be the biggest fluke

The villains within the Naruto series have been renowned for being some of the most well-written and well-executed villains in anime and manga. Although most of these villains served as hurdles for the character development of the protagonists, their philosophy and worldview defined their character. This made them distinct from the huge cast of Masashi Kishimoto's signature series.

Kaguya Otsutsuki, the progenitor of chakra and the origin of ninjutsu, served as the final antagonist of the series during the final act of the Fourth Great Ninja War. Although her defeat at the hands of the protagonists was inevitable, the use of the Reverse Harem Technique against Kaguya remains one of the biggest misses of the entire series.

While the use of the Reverse Harem Technique was an attempt to integrate the series' oldest gag into the narrative, the placement of a gag within a fight lacking narrative weight stands out as one of the worst moments of the series.

Naruto's win against Kaguya will remain the series' most misused

Kaguya Otsutsuki made her debut in the final few chapters of the original Naruto Shippuden series and soon revealed herself as the main antagonist. Kaguya Otsutsuki's overall reputation as a villain was rather shaky due to her abrupt debut, which was built atop the shameful death of Uchiha Madara.

Kaguya Otsutsuki was the Otsutsuki member who came to Earth along with Jigen to harvest the planet via a Ten-Tails. While most villains have a concrete reason and philosophy behind their actions, which are eventually broken by Naruto's ideology and worldview, Kaguya's motivations were not similar.

Kaguya's end goal was to save Earth from other Otsutsuki invaders. However, she also believed that all chakra belonged to her and actively sought to reclaim it. While her reasoning was believable, the overall strength of character behind Kaguya was weak and thus had to be complemented by her overinflated power levels.

Naruto and Sasuke's initial struggle against Madara reached a completely different level of inefficacy when facing Kaguya. Naruto's plan to counter her relied on making her lose concentration, which was achieved through his Reverse Harem Technique.

Given Kaguya's stone-cold, meticulous, and emotionless personality, the technique should not have worked, but it did. A majority of the fandom simply overlooks this scene. However, it is still regarded as the purest use of Deus Ex Machina in Naruto's writing. While this moment is often ignored, it is also seen as the narrative point with the most obvious dip in quality.

Final thoughts

Kaguya's defeat at the hands of the protagonists was the concluding event of the original series. Although the Otsutsuki threat was not prominent in the original series, it has become the centerpiece of the plot in the Boruto Two Blue Vortex series.

It is possible that Kaguya still makes a return in the Boruto series, especially since she was only sealed on the moon. There is no concrete proof or mention of her death. The Boruto series is currently ongoing, and Boruto Two Blue Vortex chapter 18 will be released on January 20, 2024.
