Nayuta's killers may be the key to her return in Chainsaw Man
With the return of Tatsuki Fujimoto’s Chainsaw Man manga series earlier this week, fans saw Pochita’s rematch with the Aging Devil begin, setting them up for a face-to-face fight next week. Given that this is obviously where the series is headed, many fans are expecting this to be the final stretch of the current ongoing story arc.
Likewise, many are excited by this, but not as a demonstration of their distaste for the current arc. Rather, there are several plot points fans want to see expanded on once the arc ends, with Nayuta’s status being one. Although Chainsaw Man volume 19’s corrections made it clear Nayuta is likely dead, there may be a way to bring her back even if she is deceased.
Chainsaw Man could see Nayuta revived in the same way Yuki was by Fami
In Chainsaw Man chapter 108, Yuko is defeated by Asa Mitaka via her use of the Super Strong Uniform Sword This results in Yuko’s entire body being chopped into pieces, including severing her head from her Devil-form body. This led directly into Famine Devil Fami’s introduction, which saw her offer to save Yuko. She successfully did revive Yuko, albeit in a state where she was stuck in a hybrid form of her Fire Devil powers (then thought to be the Justice Devil’s powers).
In any case, the series makes it clear that Fami did indeed save and revive Yuko at that point in time. While she was very different in terms of appearance and personality after, she nevertheless was able to be saved. Likewise, there’s an argument to be made for Control Devil Nayuta possibly being revived in the same way. This seems even more likely when considering Fami, who initially approached Nayuta to ally with her, is the one responsible for her death.
The manga makes it clear that Fami is responsible for Nayuta’s death via her role in the Chainsaw Man Church. Chapter 132 reveals her as the true leader of the Church, of which Barem Bridge is a high-ranking member. Barem is likewise the one who initially revealed Nayuta’s death to Denji in chapter 170. In addition to her superiority over him, Fami’s reaction to this sequence of events clearly indicates that she was aware of this plan from the start.
It’s likely that Fami approved the plan of killing Nayuta knowing that she and the Church could adjust on the fly as it unfolded. If their original plan to have Asa and War Devil Yoru defeat Pochita’s Hero of Hell form worked, then they’d simply leave it all be. However, since that original part of their plan didn’t work, they may now pivot to reviving Nayuta and using her as a hostage to force Denji and Asa alike to cooperate with her.
This would also ensure that Fami gets what she absolutely needs in Pochita and Yoru’s powers, as well as the added bonus of Nayuta via her attachment to Denji. This would also make sense as a way of setting up Part 3 to the story, which could then begin with or shortly after the Death Devil’s arrival, seeing the trio and their other allies fight together.
Final thoughts
While the above is still speculative, there is prior evidence to suggest Nayuta’s return in this way as possible, as well as narrative logic behind such a decision from Fujimoto. Fans can expect to get a finalized answer on Nayuta’s fate in the coming weeks and months as the series wraps up its current focus.
