Arcanadea anime series based on Kotobukiya's figures officially announced
Friday, December 20, 2024 saw an Arcanadea anime television series announced via the official X (formerly Twitter) account for Kotubukiya’s plastic model series of the same name. Likewise, the upcoming television anime production will be inspired by the original plastic model series of the same name. This news comes as the plastic model series celebrates its third anniversary.
It was also confirmed that the Arcanadea anime series will air on TV Asahi and its affiliates in Japan, with no other information on the series being revealed at this time. The so-called “sci-fi x fantasy” franchise is at least rife with source material and lore that should translate well into a formal anime series production.
Arcanadea anime production officially announced with celebratory artwork
Alongside the announcement of the Aracanadea anime series’ production, the official X account for the original plastic model franchise shared celebratory artwork for the occasion. As mentioned above, there isn’t much significant additional information on the upcoming series. However, fans can expect to get more information sometime in 2025 as production progresses behind the scenes.
While no staff information is confirmed likewise, it’s possible that original franchise character designer necömi will join the anime’s staff. This would help maintain a sense of continuity between the original figure franchise’s designs and aesthetics, and those of the anime series. However, this is purely speculative as of this article’s writing, with no rumors or confirmed information regarding the anime’s staff.
The original “sci-fi x fantasy” franchise is set in the near future, where rapid technological development took place globally thanks to the discovery of Arcana Particles, a new energy. First discovered by Eden Industries, one of the new technologies they allowed is the largest virtual space server, known as Eden. Within the Eden server, people can play the “ARCANADEA” VRMMO game, which features a fantasy world.
However, an explosion occurs at Eden Industries one night during the maintenance of the Eden server. Since then, the world of ARCANADEA has changed dramatically, featuring abnormal weather, communication issues, strange disappearances, and people getting new physical strength and abilities. This story is explored in a four-panel manga series which is published on the franchise’s official website.
In addition to the manga and now-announced Arcanadea anime, the franchise has also inspired various other merchandise and a series of ASMR CDs. More than 300 thousand figures have been shipped since the franchise’s initial launch in December 2021.
Some characters already have voice actors attached to them resultantly, like Kaede Hondo as Lumitea, Miho Okasaki as Velretta, Rina Hidaka as Yukumo, Fairouz Ai as Elena, Ai Kakuma as Soffiera, and M.A.O as Ermeda. It’s unknown as of this article’s writing whether or not these voice actors will be replaced for the Arcanadea anime, but many of them are reputable names in the anime industry, suggesting this may not be the case.
