Black Butler season 5 reveals April 2025 premiere and more with first visual

Black Butler season 5 is set to premiere in April 2025 with the Emerald Arc's adaptation. This was confirmed at the Black Butler: Public School Arc AFTER the MIDNIGHT TEA PARTY ~ a Return to Weston College~ event, on Sunday, December 8, 2024, with a teaser visual. The event also revealed two new cast members and returning staff.

Black Butler season 5 is a sequel to the previous installment, which released 11 episodes, from April 2024 to June 2024. The series itself is based on Yana Toboso's dark fantasy manga series. Square Enix's Monthly GFantasy magazine has been publishing the series since September 2006, with 34 volumes released thus far.

Black Butler season 5, Emerald Arc, debuts in April 2025

On Sunday, December 8, 2024, the official staff streamed an online event called Black Butler: Public School Arc AFTER the MIDNIGHT TEA PARTY ~ A Return to Weston College~. During the event, the staff unveiled the first teaser visual for Black Butler season 5, which adapts the Emerald Arc from Yana Toboso's manga.

According to the latest information, the sequel will be released in April 2025. However, the staff hasn't disclosed a narrower release date as of this writing. Notably, Crunchyroll will stream season 5 as it airs in Japan.

Shortly after the event, the anime's official site and X (formerly Twitter) account shared the visual and other pertinent details with fans. The teaser visual features Ciel Phantomhive and Michaelis Sebastian in all their glory. The illustration teases one of the settings from the Emerald Arc.

Besides the visual, the official staff announced two new cast members for Black Butler season 5. Rie Kugiyama has joined the voice cast as Sieglinde Sullivan, the Emerald Witch & the Werewolves Forest's liege lord. The other cast member is Chikahiro Kobayashi, who voices Wolfram Gelzer, Sieglinde's manservant.

The anime stars Daisuke Ono as Sebastian and Maaya Sakamoto as Ciel Phantomhive.

Comments from the respective new voice actors have arrived. Rie Kugiyama reveals how she aims to deliver Sieginde's character progression. Likewise, Chikahiro Kobayashi says how invested he was in the narrative when he read it for the first time. Both voice actors have urged fans to look forward to the series.

The upcoming season will feature returning staff members from the previous installment. Kenjiro Okada directs the dark fantasy anime at CloverWorks, with Hiroyuki Yoshino in charge of the scripts. Yumi Shimizu has returned to the franchise as the character designer, while Ryo Kawasaki handles the music composition.

Black Butler season 5 will pick up the adaptation from chapter 86 and cover the Emerald Arc from Yana Toboso's manga. The upcoming installment will showcase Ciel and Sebastian investigating a series of strange deaths in Germany at the request of Queen Victoria. During their investigations, they will unfurl many secrets.
