Castlevania: Nocturne season 2 reveals January 2025 release date and more
Tuesday, December 10, 2024, saw Netflix’s Castlevania: Nocturne season 2 animated series begin streaming a new trailer, revealing its official release date of Thursday, January 16, 2025. Alongside the release of the trailer, it was also confirmed that the upcoming second season will consist of eight total 25–minute episodes.
Likewise, this should be the last major news fans get on Castlevania: Nocturne season 2 prior to its premiere, with all major questions surrounding the series having been addressed. While some are speculating Nocturne’s second season will be the last of the spinoff overall, this is unconfirmed as of this article’s writing.
Castlevania: Nocturne season 2 hits Netflix worldwide on Thursday, January 16, 2025
Castlevania: Nocturne will premiere on Netflix globally on Thursday, January 16, 2025. Typically, Netflix series base their releases on Pacific Standard Time, meaning fans can expect season 2 to debut at 12 am Pacific Standard Time (PST) on Thursday, January 16. While a release time wasn’t officially confirmed by the series’ latest trailer, this approach to release timing is typical enough to safely assume Nocturne’s second season will follow it.
The trailer begins with protagonist Richter Belmont and the others discussing recent events and licking their wounds from season 1’s battle. Alucard quickly appears and begins speaking, discussing teaming up with Richter and co. Several action scenes then appear, seeing everyone get in on the action. A dragon is then seen being summoned to the local church, while French revolutionaries can be seen fighting against the vampires also.
The trailer ends by teasing Richter’s confrontation with one of the leaders of the series’ antagonistic group of vampires. Outside of Richter and Maria Renard, several characters from season 1 reappear, including Maria’s now-vampiric mother, Richter’s grandfather, and of course, Alucard from the original series. Likewise, Alucard’s dialogue in the trailer revolves heavily around his history and familiarity with the Belmonts, possibly teasing a flashback at some point.
Castlevania: Nocturne season 2 will follow Richter Belmont, a descendant of the original show’s protagonists Sypha Belnades and Trevor Belmont, and Maria Renard. The pair are in France during the French Revolution in 1792 and is an origin story for Richter. Richter and Maria also appear in the original Castlevania games, like Rondo of Blood and Symphony of the Night. However, the animated series takes some liberties with respect to the source material.
As mentioned above, Nocturne is a spinoff of the original mainline Castlevania series, which was also streamed on Netflix globally. The four-episode first season premiered in July 2017, followed by an eight-episode sequel in October 2018. Season 3 was released in March 2020 and season 4 in May 2021, each with 10 episodes. Viz Media has since released the first two seasons on home video for those interested in owning a hard copy.
