On Friday, December 6, 2024, Crunchyroll announced at CCXP in Sao Paulo, Brazil, that the ninth annual Crunchyroll Anime Awards will return to Tokyo, Japan, on Sunday, May 25, 2025. The star-studded event will also be available for live stream worldwide.

As part of this announcement, Crunchyroll announced its first-ever Brazilian celebrity presenter - drag pop icon and musician Pabllo Vittar. More celebrity presenters will be announced closer to the ceremony.

In addition, it was announced that popular voice actor and idol Sally Amaki and renowned entertainer Jon Kabira will return as co-hosts for the 2025 award program. Also, Sony Group Corporation Chairman and CEO Kenichiro Yoshida will deliver the opening remarks again.

However, the most important detail Crunchyroll shared concerns the eligibility period for the anime awards. Previously, the eligibility period for anime was from October 1 to September 30. This caused quite some outrage online because fans would vote for anime based on the content released outside the eligibility period.

Crunchyroll Anime Awards has introduced a new eligibility period and voting window to tackle this. The award program will move from March to May, updating the eligibility period, which celebrates a clearly defined calendar year for anime.

However, exclusively for the 2025 Anime Awards, the eligibility period will expand from October 1, 2023, to December 31, 2024, encompassing five anime seasons. This expanded window marks a transition year that ensures no anime goes uncelebrated. Then, starting next year, the nominee eligibility period will extend from January 1 to December 31.

The nominees for each category will be selected by passionate and independent 2025 Anime Awards judges starting January 2025. The fan voting period will take place from April 3 - 14.

The upcoming award program is set to feature 32 categories. This includes new categories from Best Isekai and Best Hindi Voice Actor to fan favorites like Best Opening Sequence and Best Main Character. The full list can be found on the official website of Crunchyroll Anime Awards.
