Kowloon Generic Romance anime announces April 2025 release, main staff, and more with first trailer

On Wednesday, December 18, 2024, the official website and X account unveiled the first promotional video for Kowloon Generic Romance anime, confirming the show's April 2025 debut. Additionally, the staff announced more cast and revealed a new key visual.

Kowloon Generic Romance anime is an adaptation of Jun Mayuzuki's romance sci-fi manga series of the same name. The anime was announced in October 2024, along with the confirmation of a live-action adaptation, which will also premiere in 2025.

Shueisha's Weekly Young Jump has been serializing the original manga since November 2019, with 10 tankobon volumes published thus far. Arvo Animation is in charge of the production of the anime.

Kowloon Generic Romance anime's first trailer confirms the April 2025 release window

On Wednesday, December 18, 2024, the official staff streamed the first trailer to reveal that the Kowloon Generic Romance anime will be released in April 2025 on TV Tokyo. However, an exact release date is yet to be disclosed. The short video highlights the daily lives of the main duo, Reiko and Hajime, as well as Reiko's friends, Youmei and Xiaohei, who live in Kowloon Walled City.

As the trailer progresses, the narrative takes a rather ominous turn. Reiko notices a photograph, where a woman looking identical to her is leaning on Hajime's shoulder. The video further creates mystery, as suspicious characters like Miyuki Hebimuna and Tao Guen appear.

According to the short clip, Ryotaro Okiyaku has joined the voice cast as Miyuki Hebimuna, while Taito Ban voices Guen Tao. Other new voice actors for the anime include Aoi Koga as Yaomay and Sayumi Suzushiro as Xiaohei. The sci-fi romance anime stars Tomokazu Sugita as Hajime Kudo and Haruka Shiraishi as Reiko Kujirai.

Aside from the trailer, the official staff has unveiled a new key visual for the Kowloon Generic Romance anime. The illustration depicts Reiko Kujirai and Hajime Kudo standing in the Kowloon's back alleys. Notably, the visual has a tagline in Japanese, which reads "Love reveals secrets" in English.

According to the latest information, Yoshiaki Iwasaki directs the anime at Arvo Animation, with Jin Tanaka in charge of the series scripts & composition. Yuka Shibata has joined the main staff as the character designer, while Yuji Kaneko is the art director. More information about the anime's staff will be revealed in the future.

Based on the After the Rain mangaka, Jun Mayuzuki's manga series, Kowloon Generic Romance anime is set in Kowloon Walled City, a dystopian town, where past, present, and future converge.

The story follows Reiko Kujirai, a real estate employee, who finds out that her co-worker and crush, Hajime Kudo, has a fiance who looks identical to her. As she probes into the mystery, the secrets hidden in the city, her lost memories, and the actual identity of her other self come to the fore.
