Me & Roboco anime film reveals 1st PV and more

Friday, December 6, 2024 saw the official website for the upcoming Me & Roboco anime film reveal the first promotional video for the upcoming canon movie, and a new key visual. While the roughly 30-second promotional video is little more than a teaser, it is notable for being the first look fans have gotten at the film thus far.

The Me & Roboco anime film, which will be a canonical adaptation of the manga series, was originally announced for a Winter 2024 release window in June 2023. However, the decision was made to delay the film’s Japanese release to Friday, April 18, 2024 in order to improve the film’s overall quality. A second season of the mainline television anime series is confirmed to be in production.

Me & Roboco anime film’s first teaser trailer suggests it to be an action-oriented film

As mentioned above, the first promotional video for the upcoming Me & Roboco anime film is little more than a teaser, but still does reveal some key info. The teaser starts by seeing Roboco reveal that she’s injured in her knee, which may be the film’s inciting incident. Roboco is then seen riding a motorcycle while doing an Akira Slide, suggesting its context to be some sort of action or fight scene.

The Me & Roboco anime film's apparent action-packed focus is further suggested by a shot which sees some sort of object descending on a city from the sky. Shots of Roboco and protagonist Bondo Taira, followed by additional shots of an object descending on Japan from the sky. What seems to be a scene of Roboco striking One Piece protagonist Luffy’s Gear 2 pose then appears, which was also previously shown in the first key visual.

The anime’s logo then appears with the final shot showing Bondo surrounded by five total Roboco-like maids, the real Roboco being one of them. This apparent team-up angle further suggests that the movie will primarily be an action one. The key visual drives this home, seeing a seemingly sad Roboco walking away from and looking back at memories of her time with Bondo. A scene showing her time with Bondo appears in the center of the key visual behind her.

Akitaro Daichi is returning from the television anime series to direct the Me & Roboco anime film at Studio Gallop, who also animated the television anime. The television anime’s first season premiered in December 2022 on TV Tokyo and affiliated channels, with each episode being five minutes long. The first season ended in June 2023, with Crunchyroll streaming it overseas in July 2023. A second season is currently in production.

The series adapts mangaka Shuhei Miyazaki’s original manga series of the same name, which began serialization in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in July 2020. The manga series currently has 19 compilation volumes released in Japan, with a 20th coming in January 2025. Of these 19, 13 are currently available in English, with a 14th coming in January 2025 also.
