Odekake Kozame anime film reveals Summer 2025 release window and more in PV

Thursday, December 19, 2024, saw Kadokawa reveal key information for the upcoming Odekake Kozame anime film, including its Summer 2025 release window and more. In total, the film’s full title, new cast, staff, and aforementioned release window were revealed, with a teaser promotional video and a key visual also being shared.

The new Odekake Kozame anime film is fully titled Eiga Odekake Kozame Tokai no Otomodachi, which translates to Film Little Shark’s Outings: The City’s Friend. The roughly 30-second teaser promotional video focuses on the titular shark Kozame as she undergoes her adventure of exploring a new city.

Odekake Kozame anime film casts voices Hunter x Hunter’s Gon Freecss, The Seven Deadly Sins’ Hawk

As mentioned above, new cast members for the upcoming Odekake Kozame anime film were revealed in the latest batch of news. Joining the film are Megumi Han as Anko-chan, a baby anglerfish who dislikes bright places, and Misaki Kuno as Usame-chan, a rabbit whom titular shark Kozame meets on a full moon night in the city. Han is best known as the voice of Gon Freecss in 2011’s Hunter x Hunter, while Kuno is best known as The Seven Deadly Sins’ Hawk.

Han and Kuno’s characters are featured in the new key visual for the series, seeing the trio ride on a train with other humans onboard. While Kuno’s character briefly appears in the teaser trailer, Han’s is nowhere to be seen. This is unsurprising since the teaser primarily focuses on Kozame individually, only showing brief flashes of other characters in the film. Most of these other characters are humans, but some are other animals like Kozame and Usame-chan.

Chihiro Kumano is directing the film at ENGI studios, with Hiroaki Nagashima writing the Odekake Kozame anime film’s script. Nagashima also wrote the script for the original net animation adaptation of author and illustrator Penguin Box’s original manga series. Ayumi Takeuchi is designing the film’s characters, with Kisuke Koizumi as the sound director, dugout in charge of sound production, and Yoshiaki Fujisawa composing the film’s music.

Kana Hanazawa returns to voice the titular young shark Kozame-chan, with the film centering on her trip to the city. Here, she sees a glittering poster of the city itself in front of the Yaocho’s train station. She’s then transfixed by a shark-shaped cloud, which inspires her to board the train and start a huge adventure in the big, bright, and noisy city.

Penguin Box’s manga originally began serialization on X in June 2021 but is now serialized in the Aokishi magazine under Enterbrain’s Kitora imprint. The aforementioned original net animation ran from August 2023 to May 2024 for a total of 60 episodes, each lasting one minute. The manga’s sixth compilation volume will ship in Japan on December 24, 2024.
