One Piece manga to go on a break after chapter 1133

On December 2, 2024, it was announced that One Piece would go on a break after the release of chapter 1133. Strangely enough, this contradicts the author's latest release schedule of three-on-and-one-off, where he released three chapters and then took a break (as the latest break will be after two chapters, 1132 and 1133).

Moreover, this break might be a sour end of 2024 for the series' fans, given how the upcoming issues of Shonen Jump are expected to see some scheduled breaks (the Christmas and New Year break).

One Piece announced another break after chapter 1133

One Piece chapter 1132 was released on December 2, 2024, after a three-week break, which the author took due to various reasons, including him being a part of the series' live-action and some health complications. With the next chapter about to be released on December 9, another break was announced.

Moreover, the length and reason behind the break weren't announced, jeopardizing the series' schedule. In chapter 1132, the manga series released its December schedule, which stated that there were no confirmed breaks for this month. However, with the recent break just announced, there is no telling after how many weeks the series might return.

Why this break might become a nightmare for the fans

One Piece is serialized in the Weekly Shōnen Jump magazine, which releases chapters every week. The magazine also gives its manga artists some scheduled breaks. Two, in particular, normally arrive between January and December.

The first break is the Christmas break, which arrives around Weekly Shonen Jump magazine's issue 3-4. The second is the New Year break, which arrives around Weekly Shonen Jump magazine's issue 5-6. One Piece chapter 1132 was released in Weekly Shonen Jump 2025 magazine's issue 1.

With the next chapter set to be released in issue 2, fans might think the recent break might be the Christmas break (as it will be in issue 3). However, these breaks are not announced and are scheduled, so the series might go on a break (issue 4) after the recently announced break (issue 3), hinting that the hiatus after chapter 1133 might last two weeks.

This would mean that fans might have to end this year with chapter 1133. Since the past few months, Eiichiro Oda has been releasing three chapters and taking a week's break. However, this release schedule might change depending on the series' current condition.

The recent break might be another reminder (if some fans are still taking this matter for granted) about Eiichiro Oda's critical health condition. Additionally, being the producer of the live-action, he has to pay attention to many projects. Oda traveling to another country to monitor how his series' live-action is going is commendable, but he has to prioritize his health.
