Friday, December 6, 2024 saw a new promotional video for the upcoming Senpai is an Otokonoko anime film revealed via the official website for the television anime series. Alongside the new trailer, the website also revealed a new key visual and cast members for the upcoming film, also reconfirming the film’s Friday, February 14, 2025 release date in Japan.

The film, fully titled Senpai is an Otokonoko: Clear After the Rain, will serve as a canonical sequel to the Summer 2024 television anime series of the same name.

Joining the anime franchise’s cast in the upcoming Senpai is an Otokonoko anime film is Toshiya Miyata of boy band Kis-My-Ft2. Miyata will play Hiroshi Hongo in the film, and will also serve as the film’s promotional ambassador. Miyata’s inclusion also marks a rare occurrence in the anime industry, with cast members who are also musical artists typically contributing to the theme songs for the project in question.
In any case, Miyata will join starring cast members Shuichiro Umeda, Akira Sekine, and Yuma Uchida as Makoto Hanaoka, Saki Aoi, and Ryuji Taiga, respectively. This central trio for the series is seen in the key visual, which sees the trio happily leaning against a railing while looking out at something. The trio are in their school outfits, suggesting that the visual is set on their school roof, where the trio will often eat lunch together.

Focus then shifts to Saki with her father once more, before shifting back to Makoto and Ryuji at school while Makoto and Saki are in the rain having an emotional conversation. The rest of the trailer alternates between additional shots of this conversation, and general characters from the series before ending.
The original television anime series premiered on July 4, 2024 in the Noitamania programming block. Crunchyroll streamed the series internationally as it aired weekly in Japan, totalling 12 episodes. The opening and ending theme songs were also performed by Kujira, those being “Wagamama,” or “Selfishness,” and “Area ga Koi Datta no kana feat. nishina,” or “I Wonder If That Was Love feat. nishina,” respectively.
The series serves as a television anime adaptation of mangaka Pom’s original series of the same name. The series first began in December 2019 and ran until December 2021, with a sequel titled Senpai is an Otokonoko: The Encounter beginning in December 2023, also written and illustrated by Pom.
