Takopi's Original Sin anime adaptation officially confirmed for production

Monday, December 9, 2024, saw a new official website open up to officially announce the production of Takopi’s Original Sin anime adaptation of the original manga series. The anime project was initially said to be a television anime series, but that information has since been removed. While it’s possible that the upcoming anime could be a television production, the exact format of the project is unconfirmed as of this article’s writing.

However, what was revealed alongside the initial production announcement was a short teaser trailer, as well as a key visual featuring the series’ central characters to its plot. The teaser also confirmed that more information about Takopi’s Original Sin anime will be revealed at the Jump Festa 2025 event in Japan on Sunday, December 22, 2024.

Takopi’s Original Sin anime to reveal more information at Jump Festa 2025 event following initial announcement

As mentioned above, the initial announcement first specified that Takopi’s Original Sin anime would be a television series. However, this information has since been removed, with the currently available information claiming only that an anime adaptation of sorts is in the works. Given the series’ length, a television adaptation and film adaptation seem equally likely. However, the latter may require either some cut material or two separate films.

In any case, fans can expect to find out more information come December 2024’s Jump Festa 2025 event. The series’ panel at Jump Festa 2025 will run from 3:10-3:40 PM Japanese Standard Time on Sunday, December 22, 2024. This translates to 1:40-2:10 AM Eastern Standard Time, and 11:40 AM-12:10 PM Indian Standard Time, both also on Sunday, December 22 locally.

The Takopi’s Original Sin anime will adapt mangaka Taizan5’s original manga series of the same name. The manga was serialized from December 2021 to March 2022 in Shueisha’s Shonen Jump+ digital publication. The manga ran for 16 chapters collected into two compilation volumes, both of which are available in Japanese and English. The manga was nominated for and won several notable awards. Viz Media releases the series in English, describing it:

“Deceptively cute alien Takopi lands on earth and meets a depressed earthling, Shizuka. Determined to make her smile, Takopi learns quickly that time travel can't heal all wounds.”

It’s difficult to predict exactly what to expect from the series’ Jump Festa 2025 presence, but clarification on the format the adaptation will take is most likely. It’s also likely that a legitimate trailer will be considering how short the original manga series’ length is. Production has likely been ongoing for quite some time prior to this initial announcement, suggesting that the series could even premiere before the end of 2025.
