The Apothecary Diaries season 2 reveals main trailer

On Tuesday, December 10, 2024, TOHO animation unveiled the English-subtitled main trailer for The Apothecary Diaries season 2 anime on its official YouTube Channe. The trailer announced Asami Seto as a new cast member and previewed the opening theme song for the anime "Hyakkaryōran" by Lilas Ikuta.

The Apothecary Diaries, written by Natsu Hyuga and illustrated by Touko Shino, is a light novel series that was acquired by Shufunotomo. The series later received two manga adaptations by Square Enix and Shogakukan. OLM and TOHO Animation Studio picked up the series for an anime adaptation and is currently producing its second season, set to air in Winter 2025.

The Apothecary Diaries season 2 trailer opens with Jinshi wanting Maomao's suggestion on something he wants to build. However, Maomao's instant approval leaves both Jinshi and Gaoshun worried. Maomao can then be seen spending time with her friend, Xialan and her new fellow maid, Shisui.

Just as everything seemed to fit the happy-go-lucky Spring theme, a new threat approached as Maomao, Jinshi, and Gaoshun identified a poisonous smell in the north area of the rear castle. While Maomao has her suspicions, fans will need to witness the events unfold themselves as another planned accident could be in the works.

As for the information unveiled by the trailer, it announced Asami Seto as a new cast member set to voice Shisui. In addition, the trailer has also revealed and previewed the opening theme song for the anime "Hyakkaryōran" (Splendid Bounty) performed by Lilas Ikuta/Ikura.

For those who do not know, Lilas Ikuta performs as the vocalist for the YOASOBI unit under the name Ikura. She has performed theme songs for Dead Dead Demon's Dededede Destruction and Rilakkuma as part of her solo career. Moreover, she has also voiced Kadode Koyama in Dead Dead Demon's Dededede Destruction and Hiroka Betsuyaku in Belle.

Considering that both Dead Dead Demon's Dededede Destruction and Rilakkuma were movies, The Apothecary Diaries season 2 will be the first time she performs an opening theme song for a television anime.

The first episode of The Apothecary Diaries season 2 will be broadcast on January 10, 2024, at 11:40 pm JST, on Nippon TV's FRIDAY ANIME NIGHT programming block. Following that, the anime will air its episodes at 11 pm JST every Friday. The anime is set to air for two consecutive cours and will be available to stream on Crunchyroll.
