Not fights, but Acrobatic Silky's backstory teases the real appeal of Dandadan

Dandadan has become an instant hit with anime fans, with each of its episodes surpassing the previous one. While many fans may believe that the main factor behind this growing popularity is fight scenes, that is far from the truth. While fans have certainly come to love the characters, something that has appealed to viewers the most is the backstories.

As fans must have noticed, the Dandadan anime makes use of vivid colors, quirky characters, and dazzling fight scenes to draw the fans to watch the show. However, what makes the audience stay is something far different. This is especially evident after the Acrobatic Silky Arc.

Yokai backstories are the real appeal behind Dandadan

As fans must have noticed themselves, while they love watching Dandadan for its characters and the interactions between them, what truly captivates them is the backstories behind the Yokais.

As evidenced during the Acrobatic Silky Arc, fans loved the fight scenes and developments but they were left more intrigued by the Yokai's backstory.

As fans may remember, Acrobatic Silky's backstory was too cruel. She had to subject herself through a lot to raise her child. Unfortunately, just as it seemed like she was succeeding in giving her daughter the life she desired, all of it was stolen away from her.

The Yakuza took away Acrobatic Silky's daughter, following which she committed suicide, leading her transformation into the Yokai. Moreover, her love for her daughter remained endless as she mistakenly considered Airi her child and kept an eye on her for a decade or so.

The backstory and developments were so intriguing that many fans even wished to know what happened with Acrobatic Silky's daughter. With no answer even in the manga, fans began hoping for creator Yukinobu Tatsu to give them an update on the same somehow.

However, Acrobatic Silky's backstory wasn't the only Yokai backstory that enthralled the fans. As revealed by the anime, Turbo Granny was devoted to consoling the deceased souls of young women who fell victim to abuse and assault. While the anime did not do much to explore this backstory, this plot point was what drew fans close to the Yokai while in her cat form.

Many fans may think that Turbo Granny and Acrobatic Silky's backstories fascinate fans due to their significance. However, as evident from the series, the Yokai did not have to be important to have their compelling backstories. This is especially evident from the backstory of Mr. Mantis Shrimp.

As revealed in the anime, Mr. Mantis Shrimp was working for the Serpo aliens as he wanted to provide for his son, Chiquitita. Apparently, he was a widowed man left with a sick child. Hence, he needed money for his son's blood transfusion. While his story did end on a happy note, the backstory was quite gripping as fans were instantly drawn to the character.

With that in mind, one can remain certain that the Yokai backstories are the most appealing part of Dandadan.
