Not just Jujutsu Kaisen season 3, more than 10 anime projects are hinged on Mappa
MAPPA has been one of the most popular anime studios in recent years because of the high-quality productions they have, and has also covered several of the most iconic series in recent years. This is emphasized by the success of multiple projects, which is why something such as Jujutsu Kaisen season 3 is awaited by a lot of people, but that comes with an issue of timing.
There were reports this week that Shueisha rejected MAPPA's bid to adapt the Kagurabachi manga because this studio has a lot of projects— more than 10— in the coming years. Some of them are quite well known at the moment, such as Jujutsu Kaisen season 3, but others are more niche, and others that can potentially lead to more seasons in the future.

MAPPA has a lot of series to deal with beyond Jujutsu Kaisen season 3
As mentioned earlier, there were reports that MAPPA made a bid to adapt the Kagurabachi manga into an anime but Shueisha, the publisher, rejected the offer by claiming that this studio has multiple projects and wouldn't have time to do justice to this new Weekly Shonen Jump hit. Some of the most prominent examples are Jujutsu Kaisen season 3 and Chainsaw Man: Reze Movie but there are other examples.
For example, Vinland Saga's second season was adapted by this studio and was widely regarded as one of the best anime of 2023, so is likely that it is going to get a third one, perhaps aiming for a 2026 release.
Then there are the cases of lesser-known series such as the baseball anime Battery Oblivion, which already has a second season confirmed, and Inazuma Eleven the Movie, which is the return of a popular football anime.
Moreover, the idea of taking on more projects might influence the already precarious situation with the staff of this studio, which already affected the first season of one anime, Hell's Paradise, and now there are hopes that they are going to do a better job with the second one in the coming years.
In an ironic twist, this studio is also making an original series, Zenshuu, which is centered around a girl working in animation.
More things to consider with the coming projects
Another prominent hit made by MAPPA this year was the remake of the classic Ranma ½ by Rumiko Takahashi, which is bound to have a second season because of the popular reception and the abundant source material in the manga.
This series is an example of the studio's attempt to adapt older and classic series, evidenced by the upcoming movie of the classic series, The Rose of Versailles, in January 2025.
There was also the confirmation that Dorohedoro season 2 is going to come out soon, which is something that surprised a lot of people since the general perception was that it was canceled. This, coupled with the upcoming Lazarus anime made by Cowboy Bebop director Shinichirō Watanabe, shows how MAPPA's hands are full for the coming years.
Final thoughts
Studio MAPPA has managed to become one of the most prominent properties in anime when it comes to animation, and their animators' hands are certainly full for a long time. Moreover, when having projects such as Jujutsu Kaisen season 3, Vinland Saga, and Chainsaw Man, it would be better to not take other series.
