8 One Piece characters who can eat as much as Luffy

Food plays a prominent role in One Piece, and this is all the more true for the franchise’s main protagonist Monkey D. Luffy. Despite his skinny physique, Luffy is extremely gluttonous, to the point where he regularly consumes his crew’s entire food supply and even uses his Devil Fruit powers to stretch his limbs in order to steal other people’s meals.

Luffy is particularly fond of roast meat, and eating it allows him to quickly replenish his energy whenever he is tired or exhausted. He eats without restraints, filling his stomach to his heart’s content, and can even eat voraciously while sleeping. After overeating, Luffy can become obese, but he goes back being lean by burning off the stored energy.

Boundless appetite is a distinctive trait of Luffy’s carefree personality, and the fact that he can stretch his stomach to any size allows him to satisfy his hunger in the most hilarious ways. While Luffy knows no limitations when it comes to food, there are several One Piece characters who can eat in a similarly ravenous manner.

8) Vegapunk York

The greatest scientific genius that the One Piece world has ever known, Dr Vegapunk managed to split his being into six “satellites”. Each of these six artificial individuals embodies a key aspect of Vegapunk’s personality. As the embodiment of Vegapunk’s greed, York epitomizes the scientist’s lowest instincts, including hunger.

Indeed, York’s job is literally to eat and sleep on behalf of the other satellites, so that they can concentrate on their own tasks. Gluttonous and lazy, York is shown devouring hamburger after hamburger until her stomach can take no more. That is, before betraying her creator and selling him out to the World Government.

7) Charlotte Katakuri

Charlotte Katakuri is a highly skilled fighter known for being the strongest son and subordinate of Charlotte Linlin “Big Mom”. A testament to this, he gave Luffy plenty of trouble during their battle in Whole Cake Island, with the struggle ending in a mutual knockout. Katakuri devotes himself to protecting his family, striving for perfection to set an example for his siblings.

The sheer effort required to maintain this standard causes Katakuri great stress, which he copes with by regularly indulging in sweets. Known as “Merienda”, these meal breaks are a pleasure moment for Katakuri as he can feast on donuts, his favourite sweet, entering a state of intimate happiness.

Katakuri eats his beloved dounuts voraciously, just like Luffy does with meat. He has eaten them so much and so often that his mouth ended up expanding like a pelican’s. That said, Katakuri never shares these moments of gluttonous bliss with anyone else as he has a public image to uphold.

He prefers to eat alone and in secret, so that no one can see him relaxing and uncovering the pelican-like mouth that he usually keeps covered with a scarf.

6) Marshall D. Teach “Blackbeard”

Marshall D. Teach “Blackbeard” has established himself as one of One Piece’s most prominent villains. Much about him remains a mystery, but what is certain is that this ruthless pirate is no ordinary man, as his body can host two different Devil Fruit powers at the same time.

A vicious individual who aims for world domination, Teach is ambitious and power-hungry, which is reflected in his immoderate appetite. In his very first appearance in One Piece, he is shown voraciously eating a cherry pie in a bar. By a twist of fate, Teach was sitting next to Luffy, the man who would become his fatal enemy.

Teach and Luffy argued about the cherry pie, as Teach loved its taste while Luffy found it disgusting. The quarrel escalated into an eating contest as Luffy ordered pieces of meat while Teach ordered cherry pies, with the two challenging each other to order the most dishes.

5) Roronoa Zoro

The green-haired Roronoa Zoro is known to all One Piece fans for being Luffy’s loyal right-hand man as well as a master swordsman who aspires to become the strongest in the world. Zoro has a thing for drinking alcohol, and he loves to eat as well. His hunger is such that he can devour multiple dishes at once while drinking plenty of liquor at the same time.

Zoro can perform a technique called Asura, in which he exerts his willpower to create the illusion of his body multiplying threefold while a mysterious ethereal silhouette appears behind him, making the green-haired swordsman look like an intimidating demon god.

This technique triples Zoro’s power and speed, proving to be a formidable asset in the most difficult predicaments. Funnily enough, in the One Piece anime, Zoro used Asura to enhance his body in order to eat and drink enormous amounts of food and alcohol. Luffy did the same with his Gear 4 Snakeman, cementing the fact that these two Straw Hats have a bottomless pit instead of a stomach.

4) Portgas D. Ace

The secret son of the late Pirate King Gol D. Roger, Ace grew up with Luffy as the latter’s sworn brother. Although they are not related by blood, Luffy and Ace share several traits, including the absurd ability to eat large amounts of food while sleeping.

This was seen during Ace’s stop at the Spice Bean, a restaurant in Arabasta where the young pirate ended up attracting attention from the crowd with his narcolepsy. A further testament to Ace’s out-of-the-ordinary appetite, he hopped on Buggy’s ship simply because he was drawn there by the smell of their food.

3) Jewelry Bonney

Like Luffy, Zoro, Trafalgar Law, and other rising pirates, Jewelry Bonney is a member of the Worst Generation’s Eleven Supernovas. This is a remarkable achievement especially as Bonney is just a 12-year-old child who uses the Age-Age Fruit’s powers to appear as a young adult woman.

Bonney tries to present herself as a grown-up, and generally acts like one. However, her childish personality comes out when food is involved. Bonney’s hunger is unquenchable, which causes her to display extremely poor table manners. It’s no wonder she is world-famous as the “Big Eater”, a tiny girl who eats voraciously and talks with her mouth full.

Perhaps, Bonney inherited this insatiable appetite and love for food from her deceased mother Ginny. While Bonney’s life is filled with tragedy, her eyes twinkle with joy whenever she can eat a large slice of pizza, her favourite food. She may be a teen, but her stomach is bigger than that of a Giant.

2) Charlotte Linlin “Big Mom”

Before her unexpected demise during the Onigashima Raid, Charlotte Linlin “Big Mom” was one of the Four Emperors, and for good reason. Considered a freak of nature since childhood for her abnormally tough body and insane physical strength, Linlin became a prominent figure of the One Piece world by assembling a formidable pirate crew made up of her own offspring.

Big Mom stands up as a one of One Piece’s most outlandish villains, being a woman who often acts like an immature child despite being in her late sixties. This is because she is affected by several personality disorders, most of which revolve around her preposterous appetite. Whenever Big Mom finds something tasty, she loses control and just wants to eat to her heart’s content.

Charlotte Linlin is simply obsessed with food, and above all with sweets, the mere thought of which brings her spontaneous joy and delight. If Linlin can’t satisfy her hunger, she descends into moments of childish and yet brutal cruelty. She would go on a rampage in search of the sweets she craved, attacking anyone and anything in her path. If she were to find those desserts, she could eat them for days.

She even destroyed entire countries to punish them for failing to provide her with the sweets she wanted. A reflection of Big Mom’s own selfishness, these cravings can degenerate into gruesome developments, as she is completely unable to control herself.

When she was a child, Linlin indeed devoured her caretaker and playmates without realizing it, as she was in the grip of uncontrollable gluttony brought on by the pleasure of eating a large quantity of her favourite sweets.

1) Wapol

Luffy, Big Mom, and some other One Piece characters may have a metaphorically limitless appetite, but Wapol takes hunger to a whole new level by eating and digesting all sort of things, including inanimate objects and living creatures. Food is just a starting point for Wapol, whose selfish desire to claim whatever he wants finds its crowning glory in the bizarre powers of the Munch-Munch Fruit.

This Devil Fruit allows the gluttonous Wapol to stretch open his jaws to bite and consume any target, regardless of them being normally edible or not. The meal is digested and then absorbed into Wapol’s body, and the latter can even reconfigure the eaten items to incorporate them into his physique or reconfigure them to create something new.

A wicked and yet grotesque villain, Wapol just can’t stop eating. They way he bites and digests anything he finds in front of himself is reminiscent of certain eating disorders which see the patient ingesting things that are not meant to be consumed.

Big Mom may have gone so far as to – inadvertently – perform cannibalism, but Wapol would see that as nothing, having eaten cannons, gunpowder, other human beings, and even his own body.
