Kagurabachi anime reportedly greenlit under CyberAgent and Shochiku

According to a report on the Toyo Keizai website, Kagurabachi anime has been greenlit under the collaboration of CyberAgent and Shochiku companies. The report suggests the battle shonen anime will be produced by Cygames Pictures, an anime studio under the CyberAgent company. Many prominent animanga leakers have also circulated the manga's anime adaptation news.

Kagurabachi anime will serve as an adaptation of Takeru Hokazono's battle shonen manga of the same name. The series debuted on Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump in 2023. The manga has released four tankobon volumes thus far, with the fifth volume slated to be released on December 4, 2024.

Kagurabachi anime reportedly set for production under the collaboration of CyberAgent and Shochiku

On Monday, December 2, 2024, the online news platform of Toyo Keizai, a book and economics publishing company, published a report stating that Kagurabachi anime is allegedly in production under the joint management of CyberAgent and Shochiku.

According to Toyo Keizai's insider report, the animation for the Kagurabachi anime will be produced by Cygames Pictures, an anime studio of CyberAgent. The studio is relatively new to the market since it was founded in April 2016. However, no information regarding the battle shonen anime's release date, cast and staff, or other pertinent details have been disclosed.

As per the report, there was massive competition among the companies over the rights of the Kagurabachi anime. Eventually, CyberAgent and Shochiku earned the rights to produce the series. Notably, CyberAgent has been working on the production committee for the hit Oshi no Ko series, and the company aims to reach greater heights.

The company plans to release the Apocalypse Hotel and The Summer Hikaru Died anime in 2025. Cygames Pictures is in charge of the animation for both of these projects. Besides these two, Cygames Pictures has produced the Uma Musume series, Blade Runner: Black Out 2022, Manaria Friends, Princess Connect: ReDive, and others.

Like CyberAgent, Shochiko wants to expand its business in anime. Recently, the company was involved in the production of the anime movie, Give It All, based on a popular novel. The movie was theatrically screened on October 25, 2024. Notably, these two companies were chosen for the Kagurabachi anime's production based on their creative work.

Moreover, the insider info suggests the industry wants to decentralize the studios. They don't want to entrust one studio with multiple projects, as it has a high chance of production line failure due to workload. Many major anime have faced production issues for this reason, like Jujutsu Kaisen by MAPPA.

Having said that, this is only a report without any official confirmation from either company. It remains to be seen when the companies announce the production of the Kagurabachi anime officially. Notably, the series has risen to overwhelming popularity since its debut.

The manga has reached astronomical heights, in terms of volume circulation and social media popularity. The series also won the Tsugimanga award in 2024 in the printed category, which further strengthened the chances of the series getting an anime adaptation.
