Sarada and Sumire's dynamics in chapter 16 overshadowed a major plot point in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex
Boruto: Two Blue Vortex chapter 16 was released on November 21, 2024. The chapter saw a confrontation between Sarada and Sumire which might have damaged their relationship as best friends. However, surprisingly, the chapter didn't showcase any upcoming development between these two despite this confrontation.
As some fans might already know, both of these characters have some personal ambitions with Sumire being the last survivor of the Anbu Black Ops and Sarada aiming to assist the protagonist. So, the confrontation between these girls might be the foreshadowing of them separating their pathways and doing things on their own.

Boruto: Two Blue Vortex: Exploring the Turning Point between Sarada and Sumire
Boruto: Two Blue Vortex chapter 16 saw a conversation between Eida, Sarada, and Sumire as the talk was letting the protagonist do as he pleased. However, Sarada wasn't pleased with this as she wanted to assist him and didn't want Boruto to risk his life alone. As she continued her debate, Sumire interrupted and claimed that it would be best if they left the protagonist alone.
Moreover, she continued by taunting Sarada to stop becoming a hindrance in the protagonist's pathway given how he must be sacrificing himself for the people of the Hidden Leaf Village. Lastly, she titled Sarada a heartless person given how she kept approaching the protagonist despite knowing that Sumire had a crush on Boruto.
Eida, witnessing this, kept enjoying as Sumire ran out of the room. This was their last appearance in the chapter and this confrontation might also be the foreshadowing of a big event in the future. This event might see Sarada and Sumire diverging their future paths and pursuing their own goals.
Sumire, as seen from her anime-original origins, is the last remaining member of Root, a secret organization formed her Danzo's Anbu Black Ops. Due to her link with this secret organization, Sumire received the Gozu Tennou from her father, which allowed her to summon creatures from hell (just like how she summoned Nue).
The purpose she might serve could be to avenge her dead allies, and family, by going against the Hidden Leaf Village. Given how she is still not actively involved with the central plotline of the series, she might have already started her revenge plan.
On the other hand, Sarada is adamant about supporting the protagonist in his secret mission, as showcased in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex chapter 16. So, this might see her becoming a roguelike Boruto, and both of them coming up with a plan to bring the protagonist back to the Hidden Leaf Village.
Final thoughts
The sudden change in character dynamics for Sarada and Sumire might be a given how these two stayed together before the protagonist wasn't in the Hidden Leaf Village.
As he has already returned, Sarada should have at least held her feelings back for her friend's sake. However, given how everything is down the hatch at this point, it is obvious that both of them would now be pursuing their personal goals.
