Sukuna's defeat in Jujutsu Kaisen highlights just how weak one character truly is

Jujutsu Kaisen has always placed a big emphasis on how powerful Ryomen Sukuna is and how he is more of a force of nature rather than a typical sorcerer. While the King of Curses proved his strength time and time again throughout the story, there is a statement by Hajime Kashimo that highlights how the latter got it wrong about Sukuna.

Kashimo was very clear that some of Sukuna's special body features, such as the mouth in his abdomen and his two extra arms, were key to making him a unique sorcerer in Jujutsu Kaisen. However, the main cast quickly focused on cutting his arms and Yuta Okkotsu destroyed the mouth in his stomach, thus proving the other centuries-old sorcerer wrong in the process.

Explaining how Hajime Kashimo got it wrong regarding Sukuna's extra body features in Jujutsu Kaisen

It's no secret in the series that Hajime Kashimo had a lot of admiration for Ryomen Sukuna and was quite vocal about the latter's unique body features, such as the mouth in his abdomen and extra arms, which allowed him to perform chants and hand gestures with greater ease. However, the centuries-old sorcerer got it wrong when hyping him up since the modern-day Jujutsu sorcerers quickly dealt with that.

It is worth remembering that the Shinjuku Showdown arc happens in a matter of minutes, and the main cast quickly takes care of Sukuna's arms, with Maki Zen'in being key in that regard. The moment Yuta Okkotsu stepped in to fight the main antagonist, he made sure to destroy the mouth in Sukuna's abdomen so he didn't have that extra edge to perform the chants for his techniques.

This highlights how the protagonists prepared for the final battle during the month they had, coming up with a plan in case Satoru Gojo died fighting Sukuna. While many people felt that the pacing was too slow during the weekly release, it made sense that the sorcerers would attack the King of Curses non-stop, which is something Kashimo wasn't familiar with.

The Shinjuku Showdown arc is the final storyline in Jujutsu Kaisen and centers around the main cast fighting Ryomen Sukuna. The arc started strong with the King of Curses battling Satoru Gojo, which many fans have waited to see since the beginning of the story. However, once the latter was taken down, things became more divisive.

Author Gege Akutami chose one or two characters to fight Sukuna during almost every stage of the arc, making the pace feel slow and the developments repetitive, to the point that it was called "The Sukuna cycle" online. All of this ultimately undermined the final battle, especially considering the power gap between the King of Curses and his enemies.

Final thoughts

Hajime Kashimo got it wrong when assessing the nature of the modern sorcerers in Jujutsu Kaisen since they actively took any chance they got to weaken Sukuna. Perhaps during his era, a one-on-one battle would have been the only way to go in these confrontations, but the main cast was prioritizing saving the world.
