Sumire's actual feelings for Boruto could invite an unforeseen danger
The Boruto manga surprised everyone by addressing Sarada Uchiha and Sumire’s romantic feelings for the protagonist. Konohagakure has been in grave danger ever since the Shinju showed up. Given how things are right now, nobody expected Masashi Kishimoto to focus on the protagonist’s potential love interest in the series.
With that in mind, the fanbase has yet again come up with an interesting fan theory. This theory talks about the potential destruction Sumire could cause in the manga. The crux of the manga relies on her romantic feelings for the protagonist. While the theory might seem far-fetched, we cannot rule out the possibility of these events taking place.

Boruto fan theory predicts Sumire causing destruction owing to her romantic feelings for the protagonist
As mentioned earlier, it has been established that Sumire is in love with the protagonist. However, it doesn’t seem like he would reciprocate those feelings as he seemed quite happy when Sarada leaped into his arms. The theory in question hinges on the difference between love and desire. Additionally, it also relies on a short interaction between Sumire and Boruto, when the latter had just entered the village.
Before Sarada Uchiha hugged him, Sumire spoke to him and expressed her happiness in seeing him. However, his demeanor was quite different. It looked like he was on edge; as if his internal alarms were being set off. The panel looked quite odd at first glance.
However, when we revisit the panel in question, it’s clear that Boruto is being quite careful. Another interesting point in the observation is the conversation between Sarada and Sumire.
Sarada mentioned that it was up to her, Sumire, and Eida to help him. Meanwhile, Sumire shifted the conversation and emphasized her feelings. One was thinking about his well-being and the other was viewing her comrade as a romantic rival. Another element in this equation is Kashin Koji.
We know that his Shinjutsu allows him to look into various future possibilities. Perhaps Kashin Koji saw a timeline wherein Sumire joined hands with the Shinju.
The theory connects desire with instincts. They often go hand-in-hand, wherein desire fans the flames of instincts. The Shinju are a group that follows instincts and Sumire is a character who’s driven by desire. Even Sumire was left scratching her head, not knowing why she confronted Sarada about her feelings.
Her feelings for Boruto, an Otsutsuki, could be linked to the possibility of Sumire becoming the host to one. If she becomes an Otsutsuki host, she could cause large-scale destruction.
Conclusion
While this was an interesting theory, it’s quite far-fetched. It’s highly unlikely that Sumire would become a host to an Otsutsuki. However, this could explain why she’s receiving plenty of screen time at the time being. However, turning Sumire into an Otsutuski host makes no sense from a plot standpoint.
It only has shock value, and there is no inherent correlation to other parts of the story. That being said, the possibility cannot be ruled out completely. We urge the fanbase to patiently wait for the upcoming chapters to get some clarity on this.
