The Seven Deadly Sins: Four Knights of the Apocalypse season 2 episode 6: A heroic sacrifice commemorated by flames
The Seven Deadly Sins: Four Knights of the Apocalypse season 2 episode 6 was released on November 17, 2024. Despite surviving ambushes and capturing Teaninich, the heroes weren't out of the proverbial woods. With Wolnack's labyrinthine architecture feeling more confusing than ever to navigate, everyone tried to regroup and reassess their respective situations.
It was also a goodbye to one of the crew— one known for a brief period since the Liones arc— with the audience seeing their true self as a fitting end for a hero and knight. The life debt is repaid via the death of the attacker, ensuring Wolnack's safety and the triumph of good over evil, but not without cost, as was warned.
Four Knights of the Apocalypse
season 2 episode 6 sees a bittersweet victory for the heroes
A tender moment interrupted
Anne, Jade, and Isolde are given a proper moment to breathe. Jade does his best to keep Isolde healthy by sucking the poison out of her thigh. With Wolnack being so labyrinthine, navigating or seeing around corners is hard, and they cannot involve the townsfolk in it.
Four Knights of the Apocalypse episode 4 teased Jade liking Isolde. Jade and Isolde reminisce about a trip they took when they were younger, where Jade saved Isolde's life, and Chion not being as bad a guy as everyone assumes he is. Jade then tries to say how he feels about Isolde directly, but the sound cuts out.
Four Knights of the Apocalypse season 2 episode 6 continues the series tradition of having the most tender of moments suddenly interrupted. Fresh off of being flung away from Percival's group in the episode, Macduff suddenly strikes. Macduff makes quick work of them since the trio is still winded from fleeing Teaninch.
Jade's sacrifice and the full story
Four Knights of the Apocalypse season 2 episode 6 shows Jade trying to act quickly to save Isolde and Anne by firing a flashbang power called "Flash" at Macduff. Jade's full powers are light and darkness, but Macduff being blind stops that plan, so Jace takes a lethal blow meant for Isolde.
The episode then goes into what happened to Jade, Chion, and Isolde on their childhood trip. They hiked in the woods, got lost adventuring, and disturbed a dragon. Tristan was the one who ended up saving them, and Tristan ended up carrying Isolde on his back.
Macduff loses an arm when Isolde's Lover's Mine explodes. Unfortunately, this is little consolation to Isolde or Anne, since Jade slowly dies in Isolde's arms. Anne tries to move away, to call everyone else, but Macduff blocks her path. That's a mistake on Macduff's part, underestimating an opponent.
Anne's full power and grief
Throughout Four Knights of the Apocalypse, magic evolves. Percival's Hope magic evolved from being able to only heal to offensive magic and being able to bring him back from the dead. In Four Knights of the Apocalypse season 2 episode 6, Lady Anne's truth magic evolves to a new height.
Four Knights of the Apocalypse season 2 episode 6 showed Ann's powers evolving. She went from detecting when people were lying to pinning people down by demanding they tell the truth, as Maduff found out the hard way. Her grief at being in a similar situation as when she found her mom dead sent her over the edge.
Grief then begins to set in as everyone else arrives and Percival tries in vain to save Jade's life. In a rare moment of vulnerability, Chion breaks down by lashing out at Percival and others when it's confirmed that Jade is dead. Although Macduff got away, he doesn't get far.
The flames of remembrance
Four Knights of the Apocalypse season 2 episode 6 showcases another prominent characteristic of King Arthur's Camelot Knights: they don't coordinate well and betray each other at the first opportunity. Macduff finds Teaninch caught by one of Percival's traps and doesn't help her out. He can't— the Hope clone doesn't burst easily.
Macduff instead steals a special flute, the Flute of Kunoprosopy, that Arthur gave to Teaninich. It summons a multi-winged beast from Purgatory. Macduff gives her the gloves of Ghiniahha, which supposedly magnifies their power by five times. He then blows the flute and attempts to escape the beast.
Chion's Death Bird Funeral summons merges with the nearby flames from everyone's torches. It incinerates Macduff and extinguishes his life. It's a cold comfort to everyone that a villain is eliminated. Four Knights of the Apocalypse season 2 episode 6 also shows Chion's true feelings for Tristan and Jade, showing he isn't such a bad guy.
Io and her friends
One of the other things Four Knights of the Apocalypse season 2 episode 6 deals with, albeit off-screen, is resolving the situation that Io and her demon friends suffered in the prior episode. Four Knights of the Apocalypse season 2 episode 5 revealed that Io had brainwashed friends, though Gawain and Lancelot went to deal with them.
That entire fight was done completely off-screen, and the audience only sees the aftermath. Gawain and Lancelot were able to deal with them without killing or seriously harming anyone. It's one of the first times a situation doesn't involve bloodshed on the hero's part.
It also gets Io to stop her magical jamming in the town, gratefully thanking them for sparing her and her friends. Though Lancelot says they'll talk in the morning, Gawain still wants her barrel full of pudding. If things go well, she may actually receive it.
Final thoughts
The final note to Four Knights of the Apocalypse season 2 episode 6 is a flashback to Jade's real thoughts on Chion. It's a sad goodbye to the character, an unrequited love never realized even as he sacrificed himself. The dire warning given in episode 3 of season 2 has come to pass, with one of the heroes down, and they haven't truly started their journey.
The heroes have already faced loss across the series: parents, grandparents, mentors, and other lives along the way. This time it feels personal since Jade was a member of their team— especially Tristan's. His crush on Isodle is not likely to be forgotten either.
The heroes now have time to rest and recuperate, as the events of the last several episodes all happened over the course of a day. Whether that will pan out for them or not remains to be seen, though considering their luck something is bound to go wrong.
