Why Tengen Uzui, not Rengoku, is Demon Slayer's best Hashira spin-off candidate

The Demon Slayer series has given fans plenty of characters to love and root for. Among the lot, the Hashira are some of the most popular ones. The Pillars are popular among fans because they are the strongest demon hunters in any generation. The manga has completed its run and fans have discussed the potential spin-off titles that could come into play. Naturally, netizens discussed and put their entries for a Hashira who would be ideal for a spin-off series.

Kyojuro Rengoku is one of the most common names seen in these discussions. However, there is reason to believe that there is a better option for a spin-off series—Tengen Uzui, the Sound Hashira. He received plenty of screen time in the second season and was forced to retire after his fight against Daki and Gyutaro.

His personality dazzled millions of fans who have watched the series. However, there are plenty of reasons why Tengen Uzui would be the ideal candidate for a spin-off series.

Demon Slayer: Why Tengen Uzui is the ideal candidate for the spin-off series

In most spin-off series, a character’s entertainment value is one of the biggest determinants of its success. Based on what fans saw in Demon Slayer season 2, it was clear that Tengen Uzui was an extremely entertaining character. He was brash, confident, and more importantly, backed up his talk with absolute skill. His flamboyant behavior dazzled fans, making him an instant fan favorite.

His dynamics with Tanjiro and Inosuke were quite hilarious. He rarely took them seriously, and their interactions gave rise to plenty of hilarious moments. The main reason for Uzui’s candidacy is his background. Before he joined the Demon Slayer Corps, he hailed from a village where they were shinobi. He was trained in the art of assassination, and he carried out plenty of missions in his day. Uzui went through grueling training to survive in such a world.

Seeing that side of Uzui’s life would be quite entertaining to watch. He is a character who has absolute mastery over the sensation of sound. He can use that to determine the direction of attacks and position himself in a spot that would give him the upper hand. He undoubtedly honed his skills at the Demon Slayer Corps. However, training to become a shinobi laid a solid foundation for him to build on his skills.

Seeing a young Tengen Uzui train in swordsmanship and other skills necessary for assassination would be interesting. Furthermore, fans will gain some clarity on his love life as well. He has three wives in the Demon Slayer series - Hinatsuru, Makio, and Suma. All three of them respect Uzui and would do anything to save him.

The spin-off could also focus on ideals that he developed that contrasted the beliefs of the shinobi. He wanted his wives to prioritize their lives and not his. The Sound Hashira also believed that their lives were far more important than a mission—something that was vehemently against the shinobi law.

Conclusion

Tengen Uzui’s background paired with his personality makes him a great candidate for this spot. A spin-off series featuring Tengen Uzui’s past would excite the entire fanbase. While Rengoku is a brilliant candidate, Uzui has more to offer as someone whose story could be the focus of the spin-off title.
