Wistoria: Wand and Sword chapter 47: Will and Lihanna learn about the Guards and the Dungeon Expedition
Picking up the events from the previous chapter, Wistoria: Wand and Sword chapter 47 begins with a mini flashback, where Thorzeus Fasce's Adjutant, Guilford Zurgas, informs everyone about forming a party for the "Dungeon Expedition." Apparently, it's not the same as the one mages undergo at the academy, as the stakes are much higher.
Guilford reveals that each faction member must rigorously train to prepare for the Dungeon Expedition's day. However, instead of sparring with each other, they must combat Guards, i.e., monsters who appear at every stratum's partition. According to Wistoria: Wand and Sword chapter 47, faction bases occupy up to the sixth stratum. From the seventh stratum onward, one must defeat the Guards to continue climbing up.
In fact, one of the prerequisites to become a Magia Vander candidate or Ascendant is to take down Guards of each stratum and make it to the Tower's top. Will Serfort, who doesn't know much about the Guards, asks Guilford why they come from the Tower. Guilford feels it's a meaningless question, but answers nonetheless.
According to Guilford in Wistoria: Wand and Sword chapter 47, the Guards are the products of Mercedes, the Tower's creator's magic. She engraved the Great Summoning Magic into the Tower to produce guards on each stratum. In line with the discussion, Lihanna asks how the Magia Vanders can go to and from the uppermost of the Tower, especially with the Guards stationed at each stratum.
According to Wistoria: Wand and Sword chapter 47, the Magia Vanders and the Ascendants can "Shift" to the uppermost tower, an ability reserved only for them. Suddenly, one of the higher-ups approaches Lihanna and Will and wonders why they have so many questions.
Lihanna and Will fear they are being suspected. Will recalls Creslouis's advice that they must not let their guard down and consider anyone who approaches them as their foe. Since Gohtia's spy/s is among them in the Tower, they wonder whether everyone present is their enemy.
Wistoria: Wand and Sword chapter 47: Will Serfort and Lihanna try to decipher Gohtia's plan
The narrative for Wistoria: Wand and Sword chapter 47 switches to a room, where Will Serfort and Lihanna Owenzaus are engaged in a conversation, presumably before their training at the Thunder Faction. They try to decode Gohtia's goal. At first, Will believed Gohtia wanted to eliminate the Magia Vander and bring down the false sky.
However, the latest information on the Domain of Trials, i.e., the monsters lurking at each Stratum prevents them from achieving their mission. Besides, Will mentions that around this time, Elfaria and Magia Vanders usually come to watch the new entrants. Hence, staying up at the top of the Tower is more than enough to prevent an attempt at their lives.
Besides, Lihanna remembers Shade telling them that she couldn't turn anyone more powerful than her into puppets. The Thunder Mage can't fathom how Shade or any other Gohtia member can turn the Faction members into puppets, considering most have tremendous powers.
Will Serfort thinks of the worst scenario, where the "So-called" traitor is none other than a Magia Vander or an Ascendant. However, Lihanna still can't connect the Terminalia incident with the attack on the Tower.
They speculate their enemy's objective could be fundamentally different from the events at the Terminalia. Eventually, they wonder whether the enemy isn't after the Magia Vander but something else entirely.
Following that, the narrative for Wistoria: Wand and Sword chapter 47 returns to the training ground, where Will, Lihanna, and other Thunder Faction members take on Zoctonia Asla, the Guard of the fourth Stratum.
Wistoria: Wand and Sword chapter 47: Will Serfort trains with Zeo
The narrative for Wistoria: Wand and Sword chapter 47 switches to a different time, where Zeo Thorzeus Reinbolt is seen training Will Serfort. The boy fails to keep up with Zeo's speed, which sends him flying. Zeo realizes Will is slacking off more than usual, and wonders what's wrong.
Meanwhile, Will struggles to concentrate, with the thoughts about the traitor lurking in his mind. Moreover, he also admits how grueling the one-to-one sessions with Zeo are. Even though he has been through many rounds, he still can't land a single hit on him.
Besides, he can't be at ease, as he feels someone is watching him. Will recalls the enemy using a peculiar hide spell that allowed them to conceal their presence from Lihanna's search and Kiki's nose. He wonders whether they were a Gohtia agent. At any rate, he doesn't know what he's supposed to do.
Just then in Wistoria: Wand and Sword chapter 47, Zeo approaches Will and asks him to get rid of alien thoughts out of his mind and face him like he's an enemy. Zeo reminds Will that he overthinks a lot during a battle. He feels Will must stop acting like he's a superior intellectual.
Zeo thinks Will is a "Taker," who takes from his allies and enemies. That's how his sword functions as well. However, Zeo doesn't mind it because he also considers himself a Taker. As Will faces Zeo, he realizes he can't be the enemy. Considering his personality, Will thinks Zeo exists on a different level.
Just then in Wistoria: Wand and Sword chapter 47, Will Serfort explains everything to Zeo about the Gohtia's puppeteer and the possibility of them having a spy inside the Tower. Zeo says he hasn't heard anything about this from Aaron. Although he doesn't care much about the spying Will and his friends are up to, Zeo says he might be able to help.
According to Wistoria: Wand and Sword chapter 47, Zeo Thorzeus Reinbolt has an inkling of what the Gohtia are after. However, he will only give the information to Will Serfort if the boy manages to land one hit on him. He wants Will to show him how powerful he truly is.
Zeo's words clear Will's obscure mind, as he regains the confidence to push on. Will Serfort unsheathes his blade and primes it with Dualus Wis. The chapter showcases a spectacular contest, as Will Serfort charges at Zeo. Will's Dualus Wis, which has Lihanna's esoteric magic, does enough to take the bite out of Zeo's Wrathbolt.
He feels he can land a hit. However, Zeo showcases a new move and turns the tide of the battle. Will Serfort realizes Zeo Thorzeus Reinbolt's fighting style is akin to a wild beast. He doesn't conform to a fixed strategy, but always changes his tactics based on his whims. Wistoria: Wand and Sword chapter 47 end with Finn watching the battle from afar, wondering when Will Serfort will expand the power of Prime Pathos.
Conclusion
Wistoria: Wand and Sword chapter 47 was heavy with the lore surrounding the Tower. The information about the Guards, and how they are a byproduct of Mercedes's magic is frightening.
Besides, the chapter explained that Gohtia might not be after the Magic Vanders, but they may have another ulterior motive. It's interesting to know that Zeo may have a clue as to what the enemy is after. On the other hand, it remains to be seen whether Will awakens the power buried deep within him.
