Yakuza Fiancé episode 9 review: Kirishima fights Azami and Yoshino survives on her own

Yakuza Fiancé episode 9 aired on December 2, 2024, and provided the conclusion of the plot line with Kento Ozu as the antagonist. Both Kirishima and Yoshino were separate during this episode for the most part, but they both managed to deal with their respective adversaries in their own ways.

Previous installments of this season had to deal with irregular pacing, but since Yakuza Fiancé episode 9 was a lot more action-focused, the fast rhythm of the story actually benefitted from this. It also provided some great examples of characterization for the two protagonists, especially Yoshino.

Yakuza Fiancé episode 9 started where the previous one left off as Kirishima and Yoshino had to deal with Kento Ozu's men. Kirishima, in particular, devised a plan to beat the majority of them, eventually getting information from Kento Ozu regarding Azami's involvement, even without realizing at first who he was talking about.

Yoshino spent the majority of the episode dealing with Kento and his men, with some of them trying to catch her. One in particular managed to pick up where she was, and the protagonist chose to come up with a few strategies to defeat him since she couldn't easily overpower him. Moreover, she also benefitted from the fact that Kirishima cut off the electricity from the park.

The goon managed to hit her, but she eventually ran off and came back with a surprise attack, which was running him over with a bike. As this was happening, Kirishima was fighting with Azami, but the latter lost interest in the entire ordeal, calling the protagonist a small fry. Meanwhile, Yoshino had taken down the goon with a taser, and the episode cut to Shouma's fight with the red-haired Yakuza, establishing the seeds of a potential future plot.

Yakuza Fiancé episode 9 was heavily action-packed and featured some strong characterization as far as Kirishima and Yoshino go. This episode, adapted from author Asuka Konishi's manga, made the right decision to keep the two protagonists apart as they both had to deal with their set of obstacles.

Thus, both Kirishima and Yoshino were strongly depicted as cunning and resourceful with their traits and characteristics. The pacing was on point, with the episode not wasting any second and a constant sense of danger, especially regarding Yoshino as she had to rely on strategies and her intelligence to defeat the Yakuza.

In terms of progressing the plot, this episode ended this small arc and featured some revelations such as Azami's appearance and how little he thinks of Kirishima. Shouma's battle at the end also serves as a little seed of what might happen next in the story, although that remains to be seen.

Final thoughts

Yakuza Fiancé episode 10 premiers on December 9, 2024, as part of Crunchyroll's Fall 2024 lineup. The next episode might set up a potential new arc for this duo and also get some information on Azami, especially considering how the events played out this time.
