Indian men's and women's recurve teams qualify for elimination stage of World Archery Championships
The Indian trio of Deepika Kumari, Laxmirani Majhi and Rimil Buriuly made it to the elimination phase of the World Archery Championships currently underway in Copenhagen.
Deepika was the impressive of the lot as she scored a total of 657 points to finish eighth in the overall standings. She was placed third after 36 arrows, but a poor performance in the second half cost her dear. She is nevertheless exempt from competing in the first two rounds and will join the rest of the field in the third round.
“I tried to shoot good. I did well individually, and as a team we also made it for top 16. We will keep fighting to be on top,” said Deepika.
Majhi finished in 52nd postition with a score of 629, while Buriuly ended in 70th place 621 points.
The Indian men’s recurve team also qualified to elimination stage with Rahul Banerjee being the highest placed Indian at 32 with a score of 590. Mangal Singh Champia and Jayanta Talukdar finished in 55th and 94th places with scores of 585 and 573 respectively.
