Diamond League Final: Neeraj Chopra finishes 2nd in men's javelin throw; misses top spot by a whisker

Neeraj Chopra finished second in the men's javelin throw event at the Diamond League Final on Saturday (September 14) with a best throw of 87.86m.

The Indian athlete registered a throw of 86.82m in his first attempt and followed it up with a throw of 83.49m in his second attempt. His third attempt of 87.86m was his best throw, placing him second overall among seven athletes. He followed it up with throws were 82.04m, 83.30m and 86.46m.

Grenada's Anderson Peters secured the Diamond League title in the men's javelin throw event, with a best throw of 87.87m on his first throw. His scores in his remaining five throws read 86.96m, 85.40m, 85.85m, 84.11m, and 87.86m.

Germany's Julian Weber finished third with 85.97m, which came off his first attempt on Saturday. His remaining four legal throws were 82.61m, 82.15m, 81.46, and 77.75m. Weber also recorded a foul throw on his fifth attempt.

Moldova's Andrian Mardare finished fourth with a best throw of 82.79m. He cleared the 80m mark in all three legal throws, while the remaining three attempts were foul throws.

Meanwhile, Japan's Roderick Genki Dean secured fifth place with a best throw of 80.37m. He breached the 80m mark only once and failed to do so in his remaining five attempts.

Ukraine's Arthur Felfner and Belgium's Timothy Herman finished fifth and sixth with throws of 79.86m and 76.46m, respectively.
