National Inter-State Senior Athletics Championships 2024: Gulveer Singh creates new Meet Record in men's 5000m
Uttar Pradesh's Gulveer Singh clinched the gold medal in the men's 5000m event at the National Inter-State Senior Athletics Championships 2024 with a timing of 13:34.67 seconds.
Gulveer bettered the Meet Record of 13:43.23 seconds, set by him in the previous edition of the National Inter-State Senior Athletics Championships in Bhubaneshwar. However, Gulveer missed the Olympic qualification mark by almost 30 seconds.
Madhya Pradesh's Sunil Dawar and Haryana's Gagan Singh won the silver and bronze medals with a time of 14:02.75s and 14:05.66s, respectively. Only 13 out of 24 athletes finished the men's 5000m race.
Seven players, namely Lovepreet Singh (Punjab), Sawan Barwal (Himachal Pradesh), Karthik Kumar (Uttar Pradesh), Harmanjot Singh (Madhya Pradesh), Rakesh Mandal (Uttarakhand), Karthik Karkera (Maharashtra), and Gaurav Mathur (Delhi) did not finish the race.
Meanwhile, four players did not start the men's 5000m race. They are Aftab Ansari from Bihar, Prince Kumar from Uttar Pradesh, and two players from Rajasthan - Vikram Singh and Naresh Chopra.
