National Inter-State Senior Athletics Championships 2024: Manju Bala, Gulveer Singh among medal winners on Day 1
Three final events took place on the opening day of the National Inter-State Senior Athletics Championships 2024 on Thursday, June 27.
Rajasthan's Manju Bala clinched the gold medal in the women's hammer throw, recording a distance of 63.66m. Delhi's Harshita Sehrawat finished second, registering a throw of 62.20m.
Meanwhile, Tanya Chaudhary from Uttar Pradesh bagged the bronze medal with a throw of 61.57m. Four athletes - Aaisha Patel and Shruti Singh from Uttar Pradesh and Anisha Dahiya and Aishwarya from Haryana did not start the event.
Odisha's Divya Shandilya, on the other hand, finished with No Mark, registering three consecutive foul throws on Thursday.
In the men's 5000m race, Gulveer Singh from Uttar Pradesh secured the gold medal with a time of 13:34.67s. He also got into the record books with a new Meet Record, bettering his previous best of 13:43.23s.
Sunil Dawar from Madhya Pradesh bagged the silver medal, clocking 14:02.75s, while Haryana's Gagan Singh took home the bronze medal, finishing the race in 14:05.66s.
Seven athletes did not finish the men's 5000m race, while four did not start the race.
Uttarakhand's Ankita won the women's 5000m race with a time of 16:10.31s. Seema from Himachal Pradesh and Sanjivani Jadhav from Maharashtra finished second and third with a time of 16:10.37s and 16:12.27s, respectively.
