National Open Athletics Championships 2024: Gulveer Singh sets new Meet Record in men's 5000m final

Services Sports Control Board athlete Gulveer Singh created a new meet record in the men's 5000m final event with a timing of 13:54.70 seconds on the opening day of the National Open Athletics Championships 2024 at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru.

The previous meet record of 13:54.72s was held by Bahadur Singh, who set the meet record at the National Open Athletics Championship 1994 in Chennai. Gulveer broke a 30-year-old record to etch his name in the record book.

Meanwhile, Gulveer holds the current national record in the men's 5000m event at 13:18.92 seconds. He set the record on July 9, 2024.

Twenty-one athletes took part in the men's 5000m final at the National Open Athletics Championship 2024 in Bengaluru on Friday (August 30). Gulveer Singh won the gold medal, while Sunil Dawar (14:00.50s) and Lovepreet Singh (14:00.89s) bagged the silver and bronze medals, respectively.

Only 19 of the 21 athletes finished the race. Indrajeet Patel, Sachelal Patel and Ravi Gulia pulled out midway through the race.
