In pictures: Badminton star Ashwini Ponnappa ties the knot with Karan Medappa

India's doubles badminton sensation, Ashwini Ponnappa got married to model Karan Medappa in a ceremony held in Coorg, Karnataka. The ceremony was attended by close friends and family.

Ponnappa represents India in the international badminton circuit in both women's and mixed doubles. She is currently ranked #25 in the women's doubles rankings. She has, in the past, paired up with Jwala Gutta and the duo have been successful, winning accolades over the years. They won a gold medal at the 2010 Commonwealth Games held in Delhi and a bronze in the 2011 World Championship.

Both Ponappa and Gutta won the silver medal in the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, where they lost to Malaysia in the final. Ponnappa's recent accolades include winning two gold medals at the 2016 South Asian Games, she bagged the first position in both Women's doubles and Women's team events.

Her performance in 2017 wasn't as good as her performance in other years, which saw her win two medals, both at the Syed Modi International Cup. She took the second position in the mixed doubles category alongside B Sumeeth Reddy and she also won the second prize in women's doubles with N Sikki Reddy.

She also won twin titles in at the Senior Nationals last month, in the women's and mixed doubles categories.

Indian tennis player Rohan Bopanna and squash player Joshna Chinappa were among the sports stars who were seen attending the function.

Ashwini had announced her engagement to Karan in an Instagram post earlier this year and she went on to say that she will continue her involvement in sports even after marriage.
