Japan Open 2024: Schedule, where to watch, and live streaming details in India

After two weeks of non-stop sporting action and some thrilling badminton matches at the Paris Olympics 2024, the global badminton scene shifts back to the World Tour. The Japan Open Super 750 tournament will be the first of several back-to-back Super Series tournaments.

Most of the world’s top shuttlers, including World No. 1 Shi Yuqi, will be in action at the Japan Open. However, India's top shuttlers, Lakshya Sen, PV Sindhu, HS Prannoy, and the doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, will all be absent from the Super 750 event.

In their absence, the Indian contingent will be led by World No. 37 Kiran George and World No. 38 Aakarshi Kashyap in the singles categories.

Alongside Kiran George, Sathish Karunakaran will also compete in the men’s singles event. While George faces off against Japan’s Kanta Tsuneyama in the first-round match, Karunakaran will have a challenging match against World No. 3 Anders Anotonsen.

In the women’s singles event, Kashyap will be joined by Malvika Bansod and Ashmita Chaliha. However, the Indian women have been handed a tough draw.

Kashyap is set to face World No. 15 Kim Ga Eun of South Korea, while Chaliha will be up against former World No. 1 Tai Tzu Ying in their opening encounters. Bansod will battle it out against Polina Buhrova of Ukraine before taking on the winner of Chaliha and Tai Tzu Ying’s match.

In the doubles categories, India's mixed doubles pairs will also be in action. N Sikki Reddy and B Sumeeth Reddy are set to compete against Denmark's Jesper Toft and Amalie Magelund in their first-round match, while the pair of Sathish Karunakaran and Aadya Variyath will take on Indonesia’s Rehan Naufal Kusharjanto and Lisa Ayu Kusumawati.

In the women’s doubles category, Rutaparna Panda and Swetaparna Panda will take on Denmark’s Julie Finne-Ipsen and Mai Surrow in their opening encounter. Unfortunately, India will have no representation in the men’s doubles category for this tournament.
