BWF China Masters 2024 Day 2 Results: Satwiksairaj Rankireddy/Chirag Shetty win first match upon return to action; Sindhu, Sen through to pre-quarters
After a solid opening day at the China Masters, the Indian badminton contingent delivered some more blockbuster performances today (November 20). The nation's shuttlers registered wins in five out of their five encounters, giving fans plenty to cheer for.
Getting the nation's campaign off to a winning start was PV Sindhu as she took on Busanan Ongbamrungphan. Sindhu had dominated the Thai just a week ago at their clash in Japan, and today was the same story. The Indian got the better of her 21-17, 21-19 in a match that lasted 50 minutes.
Keeping the momentum going, Lakshya Sen got back to his winning ways as he got the better of Lee Zii Jia, the Malaysian who denied him the Olympic bronze medal. The Indian got off to a sizzling start, taking the first game 21-14. Not one to let go without a fight, Lee forced a decider, only for Sen to annihilate him 21-13 in the final game.
India's last singles match at the China Masters saw Malvika Bansod take on Line Højmark Kjaersfeldt. The two shuttlers squared off in a lengthy battle, with the Indian fighting her way back from a game down to eventually come out on top 20-22, 23-21, 21-16.
On her doubles end, Treesa Jolly and Gayathri Gopichand breezed past their opening-round match, needing just 35 minutes to beat their Taiwanese opponents 21-15, 21-14.
Last but not least, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty took the court at the China Masters for what was perhaps Indian badminton enthusiasts’ most anticipated match of the day. The two shuttlers were in action for the first time since the Paris Olympics, and survived a scare to win their comeback match 12-21, 21-19, 21-18.
