BWF China Masters 2024 Day 4 Results: Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty storm into semis, Lakshya Sen falls
Quarterfinals day at the China Masters brought two exciting matches for Indian badminton enthusiasts. While Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty were able to smash their way into the semifinals, Lakshya Sen stumbled against Anders Antonsen.
Rankireddy and Shetty were the first ones in action, as they took on second seeds Kim Astrup and Anders Skaarup Rasmussen. The Indians went into the match trailing their Danish counterparts 3-6 in the head-to-head statistics, but had the edge of having won the two pairs' most recent encounter.
Today's (November 22) clash between the Indians and the Danes began with shuttles blazing, with the former establishing their dominance early in the match. They continued that momentum to cruise to a 21-16 victory in the first game.
Astrup and Rasmussen recovered well in the second game, with the two pairs going toe-to-toe. Neither was able to hold on to the serve for too long, but it was Rankireddy and Shetty who edged away at the mid-game interval. The Indians held onto that minor lead to take the win 21-19 and enter into the semifinals.
Immediately after this, Lakshya Sen took the court for his quarterfinals at the China Masters. The Indian was up against Denmarkâs Anders Antonsen and fans expected a tough fight. For much of the first game, Sen seemingly had the upper hand, always staying a couple of points ahead of his foe. However, the tall Dane found his rhythm in the latter half of the game, storming to a 21-18 win.
The second game started off as an intense affair as Sen and Antonsen kept pace with each other. However, the Danes jumped ahead to claim a 11-7 lead during the interval and kept that momentum going to clinch a 21-15 victory.
