French Open Badminton 2023: PV Sindhu vs Supanida Katethong, head-to-head, prediction, where to watch & live streaming details
A week after clashing at the Denmark Open, PV Sindhu and Supanida Katethong will reprise their rivalry in the Round of 16 at the Yonex French Open 2023 in Rennes, France, on Thursday (October 26).
Sindhu has come into this Super 750 tournament on the back of a semifinal finish at Odense last week, which included a straight-game demolition of Katethong in the last-eight stage. Buoyed by that spirited show at the Denmark Open, a resurgent Sindhu will be eager to continue the momentum this week at the French Open Badminton as well.
The sizzling run also propelled the Indian superstar back into the top 10 of the world rankings.
Making her intentions clear, the World No. 10 has begun her French Open Badminton campaign on the right note with a fighting 12-21, 21-18, 21-15 comeback win over World No. 7 Gregoria Mariska Tunjung. She would want to keep going as she locks horns with a familiar rival, World No. 16 Supanida Katethong, within a span of a week.
French Open Badminton 2023, PV Sindhu vs Supanida Katethong: Head-to-head and Prediction
PV Sindhu holds a 4-2 lead over Supanida Katethong in their head-to-head. They have clashed twice already this year, evenly splitting their two meetings. While the Thai player emerged victorious 21-14, 22-20 at the India Open, Sindhu exacted revenge last week in Odense with a 21-19, 21-12 win.
Katethong is a 25-year-old, left-handed player with a highest world ranking of 16, which she achieved earlier this season. One of the biggest highlights of her career has been winning the SEA Games gold medal this year.
While she has been a part of Thailand's bronze medal-winning women's teams at the 2023 Asian Games, and 2020 and 2022 Uber Cups, she has been making noise on the individual front this year. The Thai won her maiden BWF World Tour title at the US Open in July.
Katethong has also made a bunch of deep runs in tournaments this season, including a couple of semifinal appearances at the India Open and the Thailand Masters.
The southpaw initiated her French Open Badminton challenge this week with a hard-fought 18-21, 21-13, 21-16 win over the 17th-ranked Mia Blichfeldt.
Given the fact that it was a grueling encounter, it remains to be seen how much energy she has in her reserves to battle it out with Sindhu, who beat her just last week.
