Indian badminton prodigy Anmol Kharb rises 79 places in latest world rankings
Rising Indian shuttler Anmol Kharb, all of 17, has made headlines once again. She has now climbed up an impressive 79 spots in the women’s singles world rankings, released by the Badminton World Federation (BWF) on Tuesday (September 24).
Following her recent victories at the Belgian International and Polish International tournaments, Kharb now sits at world rank 143.
Anmol Kharb clinched her second consecutive title at the Polish International 2024, held in Lublin last week. She dominated throughout the competition, capping it off with a decisive victory against Switzerland's Milena Schnider in the final.
Kharb displayed her skills, securing the victory with a commanding score of 21-12, 21-8 in a match that lasted a mere 33 minutes.
The young athlete's journey to her rise in the rankings began with her recent triumph at the Belgian International, where she was ranked 222nd before bagging her maiden international title.
This victory alone pushed her ranking by an impressive 57 places. At the Polish International, Kharb's route to the title was set by straight-game victories. Her campaign kickstarted with a solid 21-17, 21-16 win over Denmark’s Amalie Schulz in the Round of 32.
In the semi-finals, Kharb continued her winning run by defeating Frederikke Lund of Denmark with a score of 21-15, 21-12. She came into the last four on the back of a solid showing in the quarter-finals, humbling Sofiia Lavrova of Ukraine with a score of 21-12, 21-7.
Earlier, she also registered an important victory against Samanta Golubickaite of Lithuania, finishing with scores of 21-9, 21-17 in the Round of 16.
Anmol Kharb continues to build on success at a young age
Earlier this year, Anmol Kharb carried out a key role in the Indian women’s team's historic gold medal win at the 2024 Badminton Asia Team Championships held in Malaysia.
During the tournament, she achieved a remarkable feat by beating Japan’s then-World No. 29, Natsuki Nidaira, as well as then-World No. 45 Pornpicha Choeikeewong from Thailand.
Last year, at just 16 years old, Anmol Kharb also became the national champion in women’s singles badminton, building a reputation as one of India’s top young talents.
