Indian para-shuttlers Nithya Sre Sumathy Sivan and Thulasimathi Murugesan clinched title wins in the 4 Nations Para-Badminton International 2024 at Emirates Arena in Glasgow on Sunday, June 23. Meanwhile, Paralympic medalists Krishna Nagar and Suhas Yathiraj suffered defeats.
Nithya Sre Sumathy Sivan locked horns with Giuliana Poveda Flores from Peru in the Women's Singles SH6 (Standing/short stature) category final. She secured the title win by 21-16,15-21, 21-17.
Thulasimathi Murugesan, another Indian para shuttler, continued her dominance in the tournament, in the women's singles SU5 (Standing/upper limb impairment) category final, clinching the title against fellow compatriot Manisha Ramadass by 21-8, 21-14 in the 4 Nations Para-Badminton International 2024.
Shifting our focus to the women's singles SL3 (Standing/lower limb impairment/severe) category final, Manasi Girishchandra Joshi suffered a loss to Syakuroh Qonitah Ikhtiar from Indonesia by 6-21, 12-21.
Tokyo Paralympics gold medallist Krishna Nagar suffered a loss in a thrilling final of the men's singles SH6 (short stature 6) category. Chu Man Kai from Hong Kong secured a win over Krishna by 21-14, 17-21, 21-19 to clinch the title.
In the men's singles SL3 (side lower 3) category, Asian Para Games 2023 doubles gold medallist Nitesh Kumar couldn't create an impact as he suffered a loss to Daniel Bethell of England by 11-21 and 7-21.
Tokyo Paralympics men’s singles silver medallist Suhas Yathiraj also couldn’t bag a win in the men's singles SL4 (side lower 4) category final, losing to Lucas Mazur from France by 7-21, 11-21.
In the mixed doubles SH6 category final, Indian para shuttlers Sivarajan Solaimalai and Nithya Sre Sivan suffered a defeat against Subhan and Rina by 12-21, 15-21 in the 4 Nations Para-Badminton International 2024.
