3 players Dodgers should look to sign after missing out on Juan Soto ft. Teoscar Hernandez
The free agent market for big market teams like LA Dodgers opened up after Juan Soto's 15-year, $765 million deal with the New York Mets. Surprisingly, the Dodgers were in the race to sign Soto, having reportedly made an offer of around $600 million.
Now that they have missed out on signing the prized free agent, they can shift their focus to other notable free agents.
Three players Dodgers should focus on following Juan Soto's signing with Mets
#1 Teoscar Hernandez
The 2024 MLB Home Run Derby winner was a key asset in the Dodgers' World Series winning run. There were rumors that the Dodgers only made the offer to Juan Soto to have Hernandez re-sign with them early on a contract favorable to the franchise.
However, Hernandez knew better, as he wanted to test the market. Moreover, now the teams who missed out on landing Soto would see him the next best asset in outfield, raising his stakes. Nonetheless, there's no doubt that the Dodgers should re-sign Hernandez on a deal beneficial to both sides.
#2 Roki Sasaki
The LA Dodgers are flushed with starting pitchers, which begs the next question, so, why not add another? Roki Sasaki, who will be posted by the Chiba Lotte Marines of the Nippon Professional Baseball, is seen as the best pitcher on the planet not playing in the majors.
It helps that the Dodgers have his fellow countrymates in their ranks (Shohei Ohtani and Yoshinobu Yamamoto) who could guide him in the majors. Moreover, the Dodgers won't need to splurge much on him, as he's only 23, and teams looking to sign him will need to use their international pool money.
#3 Alex Bregman
This is a wild suggestion, knowing Alex Bregman was part of the Houston Astros roster that allegedly cheated the Dodgers in the 2017 World Series sign-stealing scandal.
However, the fact is that the Dodgers don't have an everyday starter at the position since Justin Turner left after the 2022 season. They have rotated Kike Hernandez, Max Muncy at the position last season, but Hernandez is a free agent, while Muncy's form isn't improving much.
Meanwhile, Bregman is a handy third baseman and knows how to perform in playoffs. Moreover, he's looking for a $200 million deal this offseason, something not many teams can afford. The Dodgers are always ready to splurge, but as mentioned above, it could be a "very wild move," which could elicit a lot of negative reactions from fans.
