5 blockbuster moves the Giants must make post MLB Winter Meetings 2024 ft. Signing Anthony Santander

The San Francisco Giants have already made one of the biggest moves of the offseason in signing Willy Adames. They've been spurned by Shohei Ohtani and Aaron Judge in the past, but they got their target this time. That may be the biggest move they make, but it's not the only one. With money to spend, here's what they need to do next.

What the Giants must do now

5) Sign Teoscar Hernandez

If the Giants don't make a move for a different corner outfielder (discussed below), then Teoscar Hernandez would be an excellent addition. He's reliable and hit 33 home runs for the Los Angeles Dodgers last year.

This move would not only improve the Giants roster, give them depth, and add a dependable bat, but it would also make the rival Dodgers a little weaker. That's a two-fold victory for this Giants team.

4) Sign Corbin Burnes

The Giants really have a surplus of starting pitching right now, but they did lose Blake Snell to the Los Angeles Dodgers. Adding an ace like Corbin Burnes to pair with Logan Webb would once again give them a frightening one-two punch in the rotation.

This would also allow them to trade some of the starting pitching depth for other areas of need or just to package for a superstar to help push them over the top.

3) Sign Pete Alonso

The Giants could use someone with name recognition, and Pete Alonso has that. He's also one of the best first basemen on the market and is 30, an age many of his free-agent counterparts exceed.

Lamonte Wade Jr. was solid at first base last year, but he doesn't have the floor that Alonso has. The former New York Mets star would be a fine addition from a lineup perspective and from a fan perspective, giving the team someone who's been on the national stage to cheer for.

2) Sign Anthony Santander

With money to spend, the Giants can and should go after explosive offensive talents. They don't really have a glaring need in the outfield, but Anthony Santander might be better suited as a DH anyway.

His left-handed swing, which yielded 44 home runs in Oriole Park, would be exceptional in the Giants lineup. This is the one move they should make to improve their lackluster offense.

1) Sign Tanner Scott

The Giants don't have a dominant bullpen, but even if they did, they can afford to add to it. Good teams have reliable bullpens, and they can never have enough dependable pitchers. Adding Tanner Scott would be a good way to ensure the Giants have that.

Scott is the best reliever on the market. He's still only 30, and he recorded 4.5 fWAR over the last two seasons. That's almost a full win more than the next-best player, Jeff Hoffman.
