Aaron Hicks Landing Spots: 3 teams that could sign former Yankees outfielder after disastrous 2024 season
It was a season to forget for veteran outfielder Aaron Hicks. The former New York Yankees slugger struggled with the LA Angels, appearing in only 63 games before being released. He was unable to get anything rolling at the plate, posting a .140 batting average with a home run and five RBIs.
While his 2024 campaign was disappointing, to say the least, Hicks had an excellent stretch with the Baltimore Orioles the previous season. That should be enough to at least get a look from clubs this offseason. In a 65-game stint, Hicks put together some of the best performances of his career, posting a .275 batting average with seven homers and 31 RBIs.
If he can land with a club and rediscover the form that made him a surprising star for the Orioles, Hicks could be a bargain signing. Given the need for outfield depth, he should draw some interest from across the league.
Here's a look at 3 potential landing spots for Aaron Hicks in free agency
#1 - Baltimore Orioles
Why not a reunion with the Baltimore Orioles? The O's need some help in the outfield with Anthony Santander potentially leaving in free agency. While Aaron Hicks will not be able to replicate Santander's production at the plate, he could be a worthy low-risk, low-cost addition to bolster their outfield depth. If he can capture that same magic he had in 2023, he would be a steal for a young O's team.
#2 - Kansas City Royals
The Kansas City Royals will be a contender again in 2025 and will undoubtedly need to add to their outfield core before the beginning of next season. The Royals have several veterans hitting unrestricted free agency, including Tommy Pham, Robbie Grossman and Garrett Hampson.
Hicks could be a cheap replacement off the bench and could also be let go without much difficulty. Given his track record in the MLB and productive run in 2023, he could be worth a flier.
#3 - Detroit Tigers
The Detroit Tigers need to improve their lineup in any way possible. While their fans would be pleased if they were to land one of the bigger names on the free agent market, Hicks could be an affordable depth piece that could open the door for more signings. His best days might be behind him; however, he has hit 109 home runs in his career and the additional pop could help, even in a bench role.
