Alex Bregman Landing Spots: 3 potential destinations for 2x World Series champion
Alex Bregman is a baseball free agent on the verge of a large contract and given the fact the Houston Astros have other players on their way to big contracts and others already have big contracts, it looks like he will be playing elsewhere in 2025.
Bregman bounced back from a slow start and avoided being traded at the deadline last year. He likely played his way into a much bigger contract in free agency. Several teams will be in on him, but only a few of them make sense.
Best spots for Alex Bregman in free agency
3) Detroit Tigers
The Tigers don't have a lot of depth at third base. They don't have a ton of offensive firepower either. They made the playoffs and to build on that appearance, it may be time to bring in a star. Bregman could be a key figure for the Tigers and a veteran leader for their young players. He would be able to mentor and improve the team, making Detroit a potential powerhouse in the American League.
2) New York Yankees
The Yankees need a second or third baseman. Jazz Chisholm Jr. can play one or the other depending on who the Yankees get in free agency, but Chisholm is a natural second baseman. He had to learn third base on the fly, and Bregman would allow him to play his main spot. Bregman is a Yankee villain for his role in the Astros cheating scandal, but he would fill a need and bring another good bat to the lineup.
1) Seattle Mariners
Bregman going to a division rival would be a tough pill for the Astros to swallow, but it just makes too much sense. Seattle's third base depth chart is very weak at 24th in the league. It was the worst among teams that were contenders last year per Fangraphs. The Mariners desperately needed offense last season, and Bregman can bring that. He is the star they lack on the offense and would lock down third base.
