Alex Rodriguez once spoke candidly about coping with the absence of his father who had walked out on them

New York Yankees legend Alex Rodriguez is one of the sport's most recognizable faces.

A-Rod became a household name during his illustrious career in the 90s and is considered to be one of the greatest players of all time.

Unfortunately, Rodriguez did not have a smooth family life, in the absence of his father.

The All-Star once opened up and spoke candidly about coping with the absence of his father, who had walked out on them.

In 2021, Rodriguez spoke to The Athletic about the pain of estrangement from his father Victor. As per PEOPLE, Rodriguez said:

"I always thought that he would go and come back, I was wrong. You learn to survive. Thankfully for me I had a strong mother and two siblings, my brother and sister both older, that played assistant parents."

Rodriguez was married to Cynthia Scurtis from 2002 to 2008. Of reconnecting with his father Victor, Scurtis said:

"I felt there was an emotional need for him to just see who his father was, good or bad. To at least have that opportunity to make a connection with him again."

Rodriguez has two daughters Natasha and Ella with ex-wife Scurtis. The couple are often seen with their girls spending some quality time together.
