“Bryce Harper and I have great conversations” - When Freddie Freeman revealed talking about family and kids with Phillies star on first base
Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman has talked about his relationship with the Philadelphia Phillies first baseman Bryce Harper in the past. He listed out their discussions on personal matters like family and how Harper was just going to be a father soon, while Freeman was going to have his second child born as well.
Freeman is now the father of three sons, while Harper also have three kids, one son, and two daughters. During his interview with MLB Network in 2020, Freeman was asked about the nicest guys in the MLB who are playing at his position.
Without thinking much, Freeman took the name of the Phillies' star player Bryce Harper and mentioned their great conversations with each other.
"Bryce Harper and I have great conversations. The last time we just played him, we were talking about kids. I got two on the way, he's got one on the way too, so we're talking about how awesome our wives are that we get to play baseball, and they're nailing it at home for us to be able to do that," Freeman said.
Freddie Freeman proved his worth as the first baseman in the World Series against the New York Yankees this season. He received the accolade of MVP of the Championship series, finishing ahead of the likes of Shohei Ohtani and Mookie Betts in his team.
Bryce Harper will keep on playing at first base
Bryce Harper was an outfielder for his first 11 seasons in the major leagues. However, things changed when he suffered a right elbow injury in 2022, and he had to undergo Tommy John surgery. Last season, when the Phillies lost their star first baseman Rhys Hoskins due to a season-ending injury, Harper volunteered to fill his space on the team.
This season, Harper played first base. Even though he played this position occasionally in the past, it was the first time Harper did so full-time for an entire season. He finished third in the MLB in the list of best first basemen in 2024.
The Phillies are impressed by his performance, so president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski has talked about how Harper isn't going anywhere else from first base in 2025 as well.
"I don’t think so," Dombrowski said Wednesday at the general managers’ meetings. "He said last year he’d go back to the outfield, but that’s not a preference. I don’t think we would do it now."
Harper will have to keep on playing at the first base due to his stellar performance at the position.
