Cincinnati Reds fans react to team's City Connect helmets: "Looks like a helmet in Darth Vader's army" "Everything about these jerseys are awesome"
The Cincinnati Reds unveiled their City Connect uniforms for this season last week. They'll be sporting a black uniform with a huge "Cincy" in red outlining across the chest. The jersey also includes "Jucta-Juvant," which is the city's motto. It stands for strength in unity.
As for their helmets, the Reds will be sporting an all-black helmet with a wavy and 3D-designed "C." The helmet is slick, just like the jerseys. Like most City Connect uniform sets, this one does not miss.
Cincinnati is the 18th team to unveil a City Connect uniform. MLB has planned for all 30 MLB teams to have one. The Baltimore Orioles and Pittsburgh Pirates will unveil their uniforms within the next month.
The Reds will be debuting their new uniforms over the weekend in their series against the New York Yankees. It will be interesting to see how well those jerseys look on the field.
"Looks like a helmet in Darth Vader's army," one fan tweeted.
"Everything about these jerseys are awesome," another fan tweeted.
Cincinnati Reds fans are pleased with their team's new City Connect uniforms. Fans think it gives the team movie-villain vibes.
Very few City Connect jerseys have missed the mark, and add the Reds to that list. They aren't over the top while still looking clean and powerful.
Will these jerseys give the Cincinnati Reds new life?
Not much was expected coming from the Cincinnati Reds this season. They don't have a roster full of All-Star players. They're predominantly made up of young players who don't have much experience in the majors.
They're tied for third place in the National League Central with a 19-24 record, the same as the Chicago Cubs. While they're an under .500 team, they're only five games out of first place behind the Milwaukee Brewers.
This team could surprise some fans around the league. They've played in six one-run games in May. Take a couple of those losses and flip them, and this is a whole different team.
Cincinnati plays its weekend series against the Yankees and then will shift its focus to the division. They have a four-game series against the St. Louis Cardinals next week and three-game series against the Cubs right after.
The Reds have a great opportunity to distance themselves from some other teams in the NL East. Don't sleep on this young and exciting team.
